Hereford's RNC secures grant from Learning and Skills Improvement Service for music video production studio

STUDENTS at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) will be able to showcase their musical talent to millions of people across the world.

The college has secured a £90,000 grant from the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) to install a music video production studio and bands will be able to upload their material onto the video sharing website, YouTube.

“The building is currently being used as an audio production facility, but we wanted to enhance that provision by adding a video production element to expand our work-based learning provision,” said Paul Read, curriculum leader of RNC’s music technology and media department.

“It is very difficult to find employment in music production and many employers do not fully understand the nature of visual impairments and may not realise the valuable contributions blind and partially sighted students can make to the industry.”

The college will benefit from having video camera equipment and students will be able to enhance their experience in audio, lighting and editing.

The YouTube scheme was one of the successful projects to secure a grant from LSIS’s Flexibility and Innovation Fund and it is hoped that the studio will be up and running by June.
