Welcome to BAWA

BAWA Bali Animal Welfare Association

The Bali Animal Welfare Association (BAWA) is a not-for-profit charity registered in Indonesia. Our aim is to relieve suffering, control the population and improve the health of Bali's street dogs, through medical care, spay/neutering, street-feeding, puppy adoption and education of school children. Please see our programs for further information.

Protecting Animals

Protecting animals from cruelty is especially difficult if there are no laws against the cruel treatment of animals, and in Indonesia this is unfortunately still the case. Therefore BAWA has started an online petition urging the Indonesian government to adopt such laws. You can read here why animal rights are an absolute necessity for Bali's four-legged population or go straight to the online petition to sign. We desperately need every signature we can get, so please sign and tell as many people as you can.

What is Rabies

Rabies is a viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans (we call this a zoonotic disease) and infects both domestic and wild animals. It affects the central nervous system (brain, nerves, spinal cord) and in the late stages of the disease the virus moves into the salivary glands and saliva. It is through exposure to the infected saliva that animals and humans contract rabies – through a bite from an infected animal, or an infected animal licking an open wound on a human or another animal.

How You Can Help

Animal Welfare

When it comes to animal welfare, there is a lot of work to do in Bali... and BAWA is still a relatively new and small organization, so we desperately need all the help we can get. Financial contributions are always welcome of course but there are many other ways in which you can help, and make a big difference.

Puppy Rescue and Rehabilitation

We Need Homes

Because female dogs are costly to sterilize, they are often abandoned shortly after birth. Most of these puppies are hit by cars or slowly starve to death.
