Creation of local saiga management associations

Poaching constitutes the main threat to the endangered saiga antelope population on the Ustyurt plateau. To reduce this threat, we are supporting the Uzbek Institute of Zoology to create local ranger associations, which employ and train expoachersto monitor saiga populations in their area, and act as advocates for saiga conservation. The project also supports the Saiga Conservation Alliance, an international consortium of leading saiga scientists and conservationists.
