The next Wii version of The Legend of Zelda will make use of the Wii MotionPlus add-on for greater control in swordplay and more, Shigeru Miyamoto has said.
“In this (installment of the series), we’re using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you’re actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand,” the Zelda creator said at a recent Q&A session in Tokyo.
MotionPlus will also be used to target things on screen in place of the Wii’s infrared sensor, he said. “In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we’ll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience.”
At E3, Miyamoto told Wired.com that he was hoping to make the new Zelda exclusive to MotionPlus. The changes to the game now seem to be so deep that exclusivity seems like the inevitable outcome, but Nintendo has not said for sure.
The Q&A session is available in Japanese, with an English version to come soon.

Looking forward to it
I`m guessing the aiming will be done similar to archery in Wii Sports Resort, though I’d have to argue that aiming doesn’t get “much more convenient” than the IR pointer. Archery worked well because it didn’t require you to hurry, though if I had to pinpoint my gripe I’d blame the nunchuck draw action. If you don’t have to pull the nunchuck back every time, I guess it ought to work just fine.
Make sure the arm straps are good, so “Wii have a problem” isn’t full of “The Sword in the TV” pictures!
Seriously, tho- Looks fun and I’ll look forward to getting a Wii.
