Holy Family Launches First Doctoral Program (6/22/2010)
Holy Family University recently announced its first doctoral program—a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Professional Studies—will begin in January 2011.

Located at the University’s Northeast Philadelphia Campus, the program will target principals, curriculum directors, and educators with related master’s degrees seeking to move into leadership positions. There will be concentrations in educational administration, literacy, and interdisciplinary professional studies highlighting special education.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education granted approval for the program in May 2010. Students will be required to finish 60 credits and complete a dissertation to earn the EdD degree.

The program has five specific goals:

• provide students with a research-based education program to develop innovative and ethical school and community leaders
• offer a flexible program designed for working practitioners to expand their practice and leadership skills through concentrated interdisciplinary coursework and research
• promote a deep professional commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to leadership through the application of practical research skills and ethical decision making in service to others
• foster candidates who can make significant contributions to their field of knowledge through applied research
• present a supportive and collaborative learning environment that encourages candidates to develop as scholars and researchers
