CARREFOUR LAVAL REINVENTS THE SHOPPING CENTER FOOD EXPERIENCE WITH ITS NEW DINING TERRACE

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

  $54-million investment by Cadillac Fairview

Laval, November 4th, 2009— Today, The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited inaugurates the completely renovated Carrefour Laval shopping centre, after an intensive 14-month construction period. Featuring a brand-new Dining Terrace, characterized by high-quality service, ambience, food presentation and a variety of cuisines that are keyed to the tastes of today’s consumers, this $54-million investment is designed to put culinary diversity on the menu for shoppers.

“With the Dining Terrace, we are reinventing the shopping centre dining experience in Canada. Our daring, new food area concept offers a stylish environment that puts the accent on consumer comfort,” emphasizes Manon Parisien, Vice-President, Eastern Canada Portfolio, for Cadillac Fairview.

She adds: “We are proud and privileged to have secured the exemplary co-operation of all our restaurant owners, who have revolutionized their practices to bring the concept developed by Cadillac Fairview to life. This collective desire to create an exceptional site and an exclusive experience for consumers looking for healthy and varied food options will make the Dining Terrace a top destination.”

More spacious

The Dining Terrace features a spacious, contemporary and streamlined environment, offering traditional dining choices alongside refined cosmopolitan cuisine. The menu caters to all tastes and all ages, ranging from sushi to Thai and Indian cuisine,  salads, a healthy juice bar, gourmet delicacies, teas from around the world and much more. In the pavilions, consumers can even watch the chefs as they prepare grilled dishes, salads and Mediterranean specialties. Taking its cue from public markets, the Dining Terrace also features fresh-food shops, offering breads, pastries, fine chocolates and Italian gelato that will delight epicureans.

The Dining Terrace can accommodate 1,200 people with 25 per cent more seating capacity than the two previous food courts combined.

Greener

Mindful of consumer concern for the environment and in keeping with Cadillac Fairview’s  national sustainability program, known as GREEN AT WORK™, Dining Terrace operators have all agreed to eliminate styrofoam and plastic dishes and cutlery from their tableware, in favour of custom-designed dishware for Carrefour Laval. Consequently, Carrefour Laval now uses leading-edge, energy-efficient dishwashing equipment, and sends organic waste to a composting centre.

Phase 2

Renovations to the former food court, the final phase in the $54-million investment project will begin this week and is expected to be completed by fall 2010.
