Harry Potter Wedding Dress Looks Familiar…

Fashion fans have noticed that the new Harry Potter film’s wedding dress bears a striking resemblance to a dress from Alexander McQueen’s fall 2008 ready-to-wear collection.

Part one of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will portray the wedding of the characters Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley. And several leaked images have already revealed what the dress’ design will be – a white gown with an appliqué featuring two black phoenixes that wrap around most of the dress and meet near the décolletage.

But Alexander McQueen displayed a similar frock on the runway, with a pair of cutout black lace peacocks fanning their tails out over ivory tulle petticoats.

Jany Temime, costume designer for the last Harry Potter movie, described the character’s wedding dress.

“Fleur’s dress is made in organza and decorated with a pair of phoenixes that face one another on the bodice and form the silhouette of a heart,” she said.

Of the design, she added: “I chose the phoenix because, like love, it is eternal.”

Though neither Temime nor McQueen has confirmed the origin or inspiration for the dress’s design, no one can deny the stunning similarities between the two.

Coincidence? We think not. What are your thoughts?
