10 million euro orders for Olympic Stadium in Berlin and Euroborg Stadium in Groningen

April 8 2004

Gouda, the Netherlands - Imtech N.V. (technical service provider in Europe) has recently won two orders in the sport and recreation market segment. Imtech has been commissioned to provide all of the electrical solutions for the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, which is to undergo renovation. Furthermore, Imtech is part of an alliance commissioned to provide all of the technology for the new Euroborg Stadium to be built in Groningen. Together these commissions represent a value of approximately 10 million euros.

Spectacular Ring of Fire at the Olympic Stadium, Berlin
The historic Olympic Stadium in Berlin, dating from 1936, is to be completely renovated. Once the renovations are complete, the seating and standing capacity of the stadium will be approx. 80,000. The stadium's interior and exterior will be entirely restored to their original state, with the exception of the new roof structure. Two car parks (with 630 spaces) and modern warm-up and changing facilities will be realized underground, alongside the stadium. The stadium will also be fitted with 113 VIP boxes and 4,500 luxury business seats. The stadium hosts football matches of the club Herta BSC as well as German Cup matches, international ISTAF athletics meetings and large-scale German church services, amongst other things. Completion will take place at the end of 2004

The initiative for the renovation was taken by Land Berlin, represented by the Senate for Planning Development. The architectural firm Von Gerkan, Marg und Partner in Hamburg, produced the design.

Imtech (Imtech Deutschland) will provide all of the electrical solutions, including medium high voltage systems, floating battery system, emergency power units and floodlight system, as well as the engineering thereof. A rounded roof structure built of glass and steel will be added to the 68-metre high stadium, fitted with a double membrane. The space in between will accommodate the connections and energy supply for a spectacular purple lighting effect, a ‘Ring of Fire’. In the evenings, this ingenious lighting concept will create the illusion of the roof being a shining ring, hovering above the heads of those inside the stadium.

Multifunctional Euroborg Stadium, Groningen
Euroborg will be a multifunctional sports & leisure complex based around the new stadium of the football club FC Groningen, which will have the capacity for 20,000 visitors. This stadium will also be used for concerts, shows and festivals. The project will also include the functions of retail, living, work and study. Five thousand square metres of office space will be realized in the complex itself, with another fifteen thousand square meters of office floor-space directly alongside the stadium. A car park will be established underneath the Euroborg Stadium, with space for 900 cars, directly accessible from the A7 motorway.

The municipality of Groningen took the initiative for the stadium in close co-operation with Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij G-4, an alliance of the property developers and construction companies Ballast Nedam, BAM and Volker Wessels. The architectural firm Wiel Aerts in Maastricht produced the design.

Imtech (Imtech Projects) is a member of the alliance Installatie Combinatie Euroborg (ICE), alongside BAM Techniek and Homij. This alliance is responsible for all of the technology at Euroborg: electrical engineering, air and climate-control technology, measuring and regulating techniques, data and telecommunications, energy, and security and access technology, as well as the engineering thereof.

FC Groningen will play its first football match at the new stadium in September 2005. The other facilities of the multifunctional complex will be completed thereafter.
