What is the purpose of the Aquarian Gospel Society?
The Aquarian Gospel Society (AGS) is a confederation of individuals dedicated to the responsible digital preservation of, and bibliographic research into, the Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, first published in 1908 by Levi H. Dowling.
The Aquarian Gospel is claimed to be “Transcribed From the Book of God’s Remembrances, Known as the Akashic Records.” In addition to a number of theological differences with the “orthodox” interpretation of the canonical Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), the Aquarian Gospel fills in the gap in Jesus’ earthly ministry between his visit as a boy to the Temple in Jerusalem and his baptism by John the Baptist approximately 18 years later. This includes visits by Jesus to India, Tibet, Persia, Assyria, Greece and Egypt.
The Aquarian Gospel has had a major influence on the rise of the modern New Age Movement which greatly expanded during the countercultural turbulence of the late 1960’s. Interestingly, some claim that the Jesus People Movement, which arose during the same time, was significantly influenced (albeit not theologically) by the Aquarian Gospel.
Because of the historical influence of the Aquarian Gospel, and the recent growth of New Age and metaphysically-oriented Christian churches which are using the Aquarian Gospel, it is necessary to formally firm up the foundations of the Aquarian Gospel text.
What the AGS does not do
The Aquarian Gospel Society does not promote any particular theological position regarding the Aquarian Gospel, although most of our contributors believe that the Aquarian Gospel is true in whole or in part. We invite everyone to contribute to AGS’ digital preservation and bibliographic efforts.

Future plans
We recently acquired an original copy of the 1908 first edition. Our inspection of the 1908 edition indicates that, for the Gospel portion, the same printing plates were used for both the 1908 and 1911 editions. We are now in the process of scanning the 1908 edition – when completed, we will make the page scan images publicly available. Subsequent to this, we will digitally transcribe the 1908 edition and compare that digital transcription to the just-completed 1911 Digital Master Edition to determine if any copyedits were made to the printing plates between the 1908 and 1911 editions (which is unlikely, but this needs to be verified.)
