Gila County crews, in collaboration with local area Fire Departments and Forest Service personnel are once again ready with an estimated 30 identified water sources to provide for a more efficient and rapid response if forest fires break out along and under the tinderbox Mogollon Rim area. Since 2006, Gila County has coordinated efforts to reduce the fire danger in the Ponderosa Pine forests that so many of our residents live and play in. This innovative approach to providing dip tanks, pumpkin tanks and water storage bladders in close proximity to the vulnerable areas has won state and national awards and has been a model for other regions to replicate. Since 2006, these dip tanks have been used to put out over 100 fires each year. |
