Endowed Chair of Sports Medicine

The College of Community Health Sciences has enjoyed a long history with The University of Alabama Athletics Department.  Our Sports Medicine Center is named after Dr. Bill deShazo.  “Dr. D” served as a team physician for the Department of Athletics for many years.  He served as both Residency Director and Chair of Family Medicine at CCHS.  “Dr. D” was loved by athletes, patients, medical students, residents, faculty and staff.

“He can’t run, he can’t pass, and he can’t kick-all he can do is beat you.”-Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant describing Pat Trammell, who was often described as Bryant’s favorite player at Alabama. Pat Trammell died tragically of cancer at age 28 after completing his medical residency.

Pat Trammell exemplifies everything Alabama and CCHS are about.  “The Dr. Patrick Lee Trammell, Sr., Excellence in Sports Medicine Program will help make sure expert care is available to all athletes,” E. Eugene Marsh, Dean, CCHS.
