To pan, left-click on the map and drag, or use the pan control on the top left of the map.

To zoom, drag the vertical slider on the left of the map, use the mouse wheel or use the 'search the map' tool (bottom right of the map).

At the full extent 1:625 000 scale geology is displayed, as you zoom in this will switch to   1:50 000 scale geology. To change geology transparency, drag horizontal slider at top of map. A key is available for 1:50 000 scale geology data.

The geology data is intended for use at a maximum scale of 1:50 000. Displaying geology at the current scale would create a false impression of accuracy. Please zoom out to see the geology for a wider area.

To zoom to a known location (e.g. a postcode or town), enter the location into the box at the bottom right of the map and click on 'Go'.

A key is available for the 1:50 000 scale geology data. When the displayed geology is 1:50 000 scale, a 'Key' link will appear above the Transparency slider. Click on this link to display the key.

The Geology of Britain viewer shows rocks at the surface. Where superficial deposits are present, the bedrock geology will be concealed.
