David Guetta 'Nothing But The Beat'
Whisper it, but we're starting to tire of David Guetta's not-so-newly-coined "urban-dance" sound. His breakthrough LP One Love breathed life into the flagging UK/US dance scene back in '09, but has he successfully resuscitated the genre with his new album?

We've been less than impressed by its trailer singles, but thankfully they're as weak as Nothing But The Beat gets. The decision to lead with another Flo Rida collaboration in the form of 'Where Them Girls At' when he's roped in the likes of Jessie J, Jennifer Hudson and Sia elsewhere is certainly a curious one.

Such are the record's standouts; Sia takes centre stage on the haunting 'Titanium', Jessie J gives an impressive vocal display on the euphoric 'Repeat', and Hudson adds a classy, club classics touch to 'Night of Your Life'.

Glossy beats, fluorescent synths and shimmering choruses are present and correct for the most part, though he dips into lazy habits on occasion; will.i.am's cliched "in the club" lyrics on 'Nothing Really Matters' and the smutty 'I Just Wanna F-' with Dev and Timbaland being the worst offenders. The result is the Red Bull of albums - immediately satisfying, but ultimately a quick fix.
