RCA 45 RPM 9-JY Record Player and RCA Tube Radio 6-XD-5

The 9-JY is an attachment made to play thru your radio or TV. This one was made in October 1949.
The RCA radio is a 1956 model and it has dual 4″ speakers and a grille that reminds me of a 1956 Ford. It came from the factory with a radio-phono switch and RCA jack built in as most RCA radios of the period did.

I bought my brother …
I bought my brother an exact model of this unit. However, the tonearm doesn’t work, it’s missing the part of the record drop that holds the records, and the turntable makes an odd “clicking” sound. Does anybody know where to get the missing piece and how to fix these things?

The earliest models drop like a stone. This must have been a problem as later versions had an air damper added to the drop mechanism.
This player was made the 39th week of 1949 and has the damper. I have another made the 15th week of 1949 and it has no damper.

I was away last week.
Yes, these are superfast changers. It sometimes gives me trouble trying to get enough torque thru the idler wheel.
This is the second RP-168 I have done. I love the brass/bronze turntable, it makes the later plastic turntables look a little cheap.
The arm definitely needs a height adjustment. The other RP 168 I did was made 6 months earlier and doesn’t have the air cushioned arm drop so the change is even faster.

Looks like you need to lower your tone arm adjustment just a tad, it’s hitting your top records on reject. What kind of cartridge do you have?
