Weekly Round-Up
Cheryl Cole shows us her boombox

Be-wil-dered: (adjective) To be confused, puzzled or befuddled, especially with many different things; to be disorientated.

e.g. “[Cheryl Cole] looked a bit bewildered” – Simon Cowell

“You come to a country like America, it’s a big deal, takes a while to adjust,” Simon Cowell went on to say. “And I took the view, along with a few other people, that she would have been more comfortable back in the UK.” It’s not like she was particularly obsessed with cracking America. Who would be? All that fame and wealth. Simon’s probably right; she’d be more comfortable with a good cup of tea in sunny Newcastle.

There’s a slight problem, though. Cheryl Cole was still a judge at the first few auditions, before she got fired. It means she’s in half of the US X Factor’s first episode, with Nicole Scherzinger taking her place afterwards. It makes for an awkward mid-show switch, like how different Sam Mitchell looked when she returned to Eastenders in 2002.

It’s a shame, because some of the Americans seemed to quite like her. The Los Angeles Times said: “…but on first impression, [Cole] is much more interesting than Scherzinger, if only for her fabulous Geordie accent.”

Cole and Cowell’s relationship appears to be even more complex than her and Ashley’s. Shortly before the US X Factor premiere, Cowell complained of thinking Scherzinger was “nuts” and “fantastically self-centred”.

Cheryl was probably sitting at home in Newcastle, snuggled in her blanket with a cup of tea and reading the latest showbiz news on 4music.com when she came across Cowell’s words. Her hopes might have risen. Perhaps this was Simon’s way of making things up to her... or not.

Cowell likes to publicly bicker with his fellow judges, like the bad guy in a pantomime. Reportedly, he’s also going to double the salaries of Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland to ensure they return for our British X Factor next year. And maybe to annoy Cheryl Cole. He has enough money to do that.

Rubbing salt in the wound, an insider told The People: “Simon loves Kelly and Tulisa, and there is zero chance of either of them losing their place on the panel next year.” They went on to say how Simon believes Tulisa is the next Cheryl and will be even bigger. Cheryl is 5’ 3”, whereas Tulisa stands taller at 5’ 6”. Cole’s already beaten there.

Cheryl’s very own human clone, Cher Lloyd, didn’t want to miss out on the Cole-bashing. Taking a break from a stream of incomprehensible, paranoid mutterings (“they’re all tweeting ‘bout me, clickin’ on me…”), she heaped praise on Cole’s usurpers: “Tulisa’s brilliant. I kind of wish I was on now so she could teach me a few things. She’s really cool” – which actually translates as “Cheryl was an awful mentor” in thinly-veiled, female double-speak.
