Iran grants its highest badge of honor to presidents, prime ministers and high-ranking officials of countries based on Article 129 of the Constitution and a ratification by the cabinet and approval of the president.
The ceremony was held in presence of Presidents Ahmadinejad and Chavez, Tehran-based ambassadors of the Islamic states, Parliament deputies and a number of cabinet ministers as well as cultural and political figures.
The badge was granted to the Venezuelan president to honor his valuable and brave efforts to establish a justice-based peace, adopt a stance against the hegemonic system and support endeavors to uphold freedom and independence of the Venezuelan nation.
Fight against a corrupted and unequal political and social system in Venezuela, support for Iran's stance on its nuclear case at international circles particularly Venezuela's vote against an anti-Iranian resolution adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), support for popular moves in Latin America and efforts to eradicate poverty in the region through economic strategies were main reasons Iran granted the badge to Chavez.
Iran also cited popular support in venezuela for promoting freedom and justice, sensitivity about interference of superpowers in domestic affairs of other states and efforts to eradicate poverty of 80 percent of the poor Venezuelan people as among other reasons for the badge of honor.
