At this morning's Winter TCA Press Tour executive session, ABC chief Paul Lee said Cougar Town was tentatively scheduled for a March return.  Some blather about wanting to "give it a good launch pad' but ABC still hasn't decided where it will air. A premiere date announcement is expected within a couple of weeks.  ABC also announced that Scandal would premiere on April 5 at 10pm following Grey's Anatomy and that Private Practice would move to Tuesdays at 10pm for four weeks from April 24-May 15.

On General Hospital Lee said that he's a fan of the show but that they have not made a decision on its fate, and that they do not not have a time frame for that. That doesn't sound too good...

“SCANDAL,” A NEW DRAMA SERIES FROM THE CREATOR AND

EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS OF “GREY’S ANATOMY” AND “Private Practice,”

PREMIERES THURSDAY, APRIL 5 AT 10:00 P.M., ET ON ABC

Starring Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope

Private Practice” Moves to Tuesday Evenings at 10:00 p.m., from April 24through May 15

The creator and executive producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” delve into the behind-the-scenes machinations of a mesmerizing top crisis manager, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), in ABC’s highly anticipated new drama, “Scandal,” premiering THURSDAY, APRIL 5 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Everyone has a secret... and Olivia Pope has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite and keeping those secrets under wraps. Revered and feared at the same time, Olivia, a former communications director to the President of the United States, left the White House to open her own prominent crisis management firm. She is hoping to start a new chapter in her life —both professionally and personally—but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past. Olivia’s former boss, President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn), and his chief of staff, Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry), are never far, and it soon becomes clear that Olivia’s clients aren’t the only ones with secrets. Olivia’s accomplished staff includes Stephen Finch (Henry Ian Cusick), a womanizing lawyer who’s trying to settle down; Harrison Wright (Columbus Short), a slick litigator with his fair share of secrets; Huck (Guillermo Diaz), a hacker extraordinaire with a CIA past; and Abby Whelan (Darby Stanchfield), an investigator who has a love/hate relationship with Stephen. Although Olivia and her team specialize in fixing the lives of other people, they can’t quite seem to fix the problems closest at hand—their own.

In the premiere episode, young lawyer Quinn Perkins (Katie Lowes) is offered a job with Olivia Pope and Associates, and she is in awe. Olivia and her team of “gladiators in Suits” will do whatever it takes to make their clients’ problems go away, and newbie Quinn is initiated into the group with trial by fire on day one -- when a White House intern accuses the President of having an affair. Olivia is the only one the White House trusts to diffuse the problem, but as she gets deeper into the situation, Quinn soon realizes Olivia’s clients aren’t the only ones with secrets.

“Scandal” stars Kerry Washington (“Ray”) as Olivia Pope, Henry Ian Cusick (“Lost”) as Stephen Finch, Columbus Short (“Stomp the Yard”) as Harrison Wright, Guillermo Diaz (“Half-Baked”) as Huck, Darby Stanchfield as Abby Whelan, Katie Lowes as Quinn Perkins, Tony Goldwyn (“Ghost”) as President Fitzgerald Grant, and Jeff Perry (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Cyrus Beene.

“Scandal” is written by Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice”). Rhimes and Betsy Beers (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Private Practice”) are executive producers. Judy Smith is co-executive producer. Paul McGuigan (BBC's "Sherlock”) is the director. “Scandal” is produced by ABC Studios.

Thrilled that he’s taking a chance with SCANDAL by bumping PP to Tuesdays! :D

  2. rob60990

Finally ABC uses Grey’s lead-in and move Private Practice.

  3. RJ

Come on ABC, we want Cougar Town!!

  4. JC

“A premiere date announcement is expected within a couple of weeks.” Translation: Once we cancel Work It, we’ll put out a press release on the Cougar Town premiere date.

  5. Bunny

I love Happy Endings… but we all knew all along that they will be replaced by Apt 23..Even one of the actress of that show hinted on in their twitter when the first mid-season schedule appeared..

It would be awful if the Happy Endings crew didn’t know until yesterday..like the creator of Cougar Town.

  6. Ike

Hi Robert — there should be no apostrophe in “Tuesdays” (fifth line).

  7. SJ

Re: Scandal. Not impressed. Had it followed DWTS on Tuesdays, it would have had an original lead-in for all 7 episodes. Following Grey’s, it will only get that for 4 or 5. It also looks like the Private Practice renewal decision will come down to the wire.

Re: Apartment 23. Not unexpected, but what the hell is going to happen to Happy Endings? Will they manage to air all 22 episodes by April 4?

  8. Andy

It stinks with what ABC has done to their daytime lineup.

  9. SJ

    @myself

Yes. With no breaks, Happy Endings airs its season finale March 28.

Also, it looks like Private Practice is again getting a sweet deal. Sure it’s moving, but it’ll be protected by all-new DWTS episodes, not to mention that its competition from CBS will not be as high rated.

  10. Bunny

I believe Apt 23 is going to be A HIT!

It has the 2 Broke girls + New Girl formula = Success!

  11. r0ckmypants

I thought Work It only received a 7 episode order? Why won’t they just put Cougar Town in the Tuesday 8:30 slot for March and then bump it up if Work It gets pulled early? I just don’t understand networks sometimes…

  12. Kay

Robert Seidman/Bill Gorman- could this be a good move for PP from Thurs to Tues nights?

  13. GDfriends

    The moves are solid IMO…

    Private Practice is still protected
    Scandal gets a great lead-in
    Apt 23 as well
CougarTown IMO is the sacrificial lamb…it would not surprise me if it returns with horrible numbers…

  14. OldMan

Like the cast of Apt 23 & will definitely give it a shot

Last I heard on GH is the affiliates will have to choose between it & Katie Couric’s news show @ 3:00 & either not air GH or air it “whenever.” Either way, it just doesn’t look good

  15. Data

@r0ckmypants: I don’t understand how Work It got a series order in the first place. Nah, scratch thath: I don’t understand how it got a PILOT order in the first place. I really hope they’ll put Cougar Town Tuesdays at 8:30 after Last Man Standing – because I somehow can’t shake that ‘summer burn off’-feeling.

  16. OldMan

    @ SJ

Was there really ever any doubt in your mind that Scandal would not premiere after GA? C’mon! Whatever Shonda wants…

  17. PJM

Let’s hope Happy Endings doesn’t get screwed over next year like Cougar Town is getting screwed over this year.

  18. Avery

The new comedy “DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23” sounds funny, but I’m still waiting for the TGiF announcement in May.

  19. Gustavo

Any news about NYC 22?.I hope that show can be so good as The Unusuals and Rookie Blue.

  20. Oliver

JC took the words out of my mouth.
