Each nation qualified four boxers in Windhoek (a total of 15 countries are represented in the final tally of 29 Olympic qualified boxers) while Kenya - named team of the tournament - and Ghana had qualified one and two boxers respectively at the 1st Africa Olympic Qualification Tournament in Algiers, Algeria.
After Friday's semifinals where 20 boxers (including four from Kenya), boxed their way to Beijing, nine vacancies remained unfilled with 48kg to 69kg and 81kg bronze medal bouts and the 91kg final offering the last Olympic tickets for African boxers.
Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Ghana, Namibia, Cameroon, Morocco and Nigeria all shared the bronze medal qualifying spots amongst the eight weight categories while Olanrewaju came from 4-0 down to tie his 91kg final bout against Abgonso Yao from Togo at 5-5. The bout, and the final Olympic qualifying spot of the evening, was awarded to Olanrewaju on accepted points 12:11 much to the delight of the jubilant Nigerian fans.
The 2nd AIBA Africa Olympic Qualification Tournament completes the qualifying process for Africa with Morocco topping the African qualifying table with 10 qualified boxers followed by Algeria, and Ghana with eight and six respectively.
