Cracked.com Launches ‘Cheat Sheets,’ a Bite-sized Guide to Movies and More

Demand Media | 04/29/2011

Santa Monica, Calif. – April 28, 2011 – Cracked.com, a Demand Media (NYSE: DMD) property and the #1 most visited humor website on the web, has partnered with leading entertainment brands including Rotten Tomatoes and MOVIECLIPS to launch Cheat Sheets, a first-of-its-kind humorous pop culture guide that gives people everything they need to know about their favorite movie and invites them to share their knowledge and humorous comments online.  Cheat Sheets has launched with films and will grow to include actors, actresses, video games and musicians in the months ahead.

The centerpiece of each Cheat Sheet is a witty member submitted summary called a “Gist.” Gists are designed to capture the essence of each film in 500 characters or less. Cracked.com members can contribute their own Gists as well as rate those posted by others using the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons.  The highest-rated Gist for each title is showcased at the top of the Cheat Sheet. Every day, there will be one editorially selected Cheat Sheet featured on the Cracked.com homepage that will highlight the highest rated Gist for that Cheat Sheet as of noon PT the previous day.

Cheat Sheets start with the Gist, but that’s not where it stops.  Every Cheat Sheet includes the movie’s RottenTomatoes’ Tomatometer, the most memorable video clips courtesy of MOVIECLIPS and the most popular film quotes.  Cheat Sheets will entertain the Cracked.com community with insights like:  why Pixar’s Toy Story 3 will make grown men cry; the conspiracy behind M Night Shyamalan’s ill-fated The Last Airbender, and the most repeated Arnold quip in Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

"Cracked.com fans are extremely passionate about movies and entertainment, so in our quest to create the ultimate pop culture guide, we knew that it was important for us to partner with leading entertainment resources  like RottenTomatoes and MOVIECLIPS - because they are the brands our fans know and trust,” said Oren Katzeff, general manager and vice president of Cracked.com and Demand Media. “Cheat Sheets also gives our talented writing community an opportunity to contribute a concise recap of their favorite movies.  The result is an action packed, bite-sized page that contains everything we think you need to know about a particular film."

Cracked.com is one of the largest comedy brands online with over 1 billion page views in 2010, according to comScore, and continues to draw attention from notable celebrity and media critics with its witty informative lists on pop culture.  According to comScore's US audience report for March 2011, Cracked.com is the most visited online humor site, with 20.5 million total visits and more than 115 million minutes spent on the site during the month, more than competitors College Humor, FunnyorDie and The Onion - combined.  Cracked.com’s unique approach to entertainment, culture, history and science has contributed to its loyal following of over 1.2 million fans on Facebook.
