Gimenez; U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Import Administration Paul Piquado; and U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) at Foreign Trade Zone presentation ceremony at PortMiami.U.S. Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary for Import Administration, Paul Piquado, announced the establishment of a new Foreign-Trade Zone in Miami-Dade County at PortMiami, a move that will help improve American businesses' competitive advantage in the global economy.

    PortMiami Tunnel Project Reaches a Milestone
    The Tunnel Boring Machine known as Harriet arrived at PortMiami July 31, 2012.The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), also known as Harriet, arrived at PortMiami July 31, 2012 completing the first of what will be two tunnel tubes under Biscayne Bay linking the Port with the mainland. This marks the half-way point in the boring process.

    More Lines, New Ships Coming
    Norweigian GatewayNew cruise business is coming to PortMiami in a big way! Three cruise lines – Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises – are bringing new operations here. Also, some of the world's newest cruise vessels will begin arriving this year. These include Carnival BreezeCelebrity Reflection and Oceania Riviera scheduled to begin sailing from PortMiami this winter season. In other big news this month, Norwegian Cruise Line announced that its newest ship, the Norwegian Getaway, will homeport here beginning in 2014 and MSC Cruises said its new build, the MSC Divina, will join PortMiami in 2013.

    PortMiami the New Florida Homeport for Disney Cruise Line

Photo courtesy Disney CruisesPortMiami is looking forward to welcoming Disney Cruise Line as the latest addition to its cruise fleet. This is the first time a Disney ship will operate from a South Florida port. The Disney Wonder will begin sailing in December 2012 from PortMiami with four and five - night itineraries to the Bahamas and Western Caribbean.

    New Port of Miami Cranes on the Way!
    #The Miami-Dade County Commission has approved the Port of Miami's purchase of four additional Super-Post Panamax cranes. The new cranes are necessary to accommodate the larger containerized cargo vessels that will traverse the expanded Panama Canal in 2014. The Port of Miami currently has nine cranes, two of which are Super-Post-Panamax cranes.
