Two Estonian-made movies will be submitted for consideration for the Oscars this year.

Toomas Hussar's "Seenelkäik" (Mushrooming), a black comedy about a trip to the woods gone wrong, will be entered for Best Foreign Film. And an animated short by Ülo Pikkov called "Keha mälu" (Body Memory) will vie for Best Animated Short Film.

The five-member national nominating committee was led by the Estonian Film Foundation's external affairs director Tristan Priimägi.

Pikkov's animation got the nod because it won the best animated film title at the Krakow short film festival and it also had a run at the Pasadena arthouse cinema Playhouse 7.

"Body Memory has a pretty good chance of getting spotted, I think," said Priimägi on uudised.err.ee. "It could also win the Oscar for best animation."
