BioShock Infinite DLC, season pass detailed

By Staff

Irrational Games details three add-on packs for the upcoming first-person shooter; BioShock Infinite Season Pass available March 26 for $19.99.

2K Games has revealed that Irrational is already working on downloadable content for the upcoming title BioShock Infinite.

According to the publisher, Irrational will produce three add-on packs for the first-person shooter, which will provide hours of additional gameplay and include new stories, characters, abilities, and weapons.

2K also announced details concerning the BioShock Infinite Season Pass, which will be available at launch on March 26 and will cost $19.99 on the PlayStation Network and PC, and 1,600 Microsoft points on Xbox Live. It will include all three add-on packs and can be preordered through www.preordernow.com or at participating retailers.

According to 2K, those who purchase the BioShock Infinite Season Pass will also receive the Early Bird Special Pack, which contains exclusive gear, including a machine gun damage upgrade, a pistol damage upgrade, a gold skin for both weapons, and five infusion bottles that let players increase their health, shield durability, or ability to use vigors.

Those who preorder BioShock Infinite will also receive the Industrial Revolution Pack, which grants exclusive access to three in-game gear items that boost combat abilities, $500 bonus in-game currency, five lock picks, and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game, which unlocks stories of Columbia and allows players to pledge their allegiance to the Vox Populi or Founders through Facebook.

BioShock Infinite was announced in August 2010 and will ship on March 26, following several delays.

Analysts have suggested that the game would be a significant financial boon for publisher 2K, saying the game could ship 4.9 million copies.

... Why do so many games offer pre-order incentives that make the game easier? Why not stuff that makes the game harder?

Well at least it doesn't seem to have any retailer-specific bonuses or DLC. That's always a good thing in my opinion.

Well glad I'll be getting this on PC where by fall this year I'll be able to get the game and most of it's DLC at 50-75% off all at once. Then whatever else is released I can pick up later on discount again. All they do by announcing season passes is make me go "oh well I guess I'll just wait until all the DLC is released and cheaper". Wish more companies took the CDProject red route and just added DLC later for free via patches, I might actually buy a game at full price again.

Which is pointless unless you give a proper replay value through a damn carry over new game plus. I still haven't heard anything confirming that yet, and I know it has been asked for since Bioshock 1.

How about you worry about the damn game right now and the stupid DLC's later. This whole DLC thing is getting out of hand.

Dragon_Nexus

@100proofsoco Yeah, we should totally get all of their hard work for free. That makes sense!

You're already getting money off the DLC by buying the pass. What, the percentage is too low? You demand 100% or nothing?

Well this season pass is only $20 dollars I might get the season pass for this game maybe I might get the pass for, I usally never do get these passes any. I think the person who wrote this article made a typo isn't 1400 MSP the equivilent of $20 not 1600 MSP I don't know but the last time I bought 1400 MSP it was only $20 dollars plus tax.

season passes to me are starting to mean wait for the price drop especially for SP games. I mean you can get really excited for a new release and then they just douse the crap out of by announcing a season pass its like why even buy it at launch now. Wait for the drop or GOTY and get the full game for a reasonable price. Its very annoying to buy a game for $60 and then watch the devs/pubs ask for even more money like $60 wasn't a bunch to begin with. I personally wish they would go back to releasing full expansions because those were worth money instead they slice and dice things out of the main game to sell them  back to you in a piece meal fashion. They need to just start offering complete editions when the game launches for $70.

@Gen007"They need to just start offering complete editions when the game launches for $70."

So you object to paying more for DLC, but you're okay with paying more for a retail game with the same DLC content included?

@Gen007 Most practical advice I've seen. They should really just offer up a Complete Edition with a built-in season pass on first release.

This game was a day one buy for me.

Now of course i will wait for the special edition an year later which will have all this at a cheaper price.

I don't hate DLC or season pass but hey i also go for the better deal.

Economics 101!

Thank god there's no multiplayer so you know that half the season pass isn't going towards crappy maps and pointless multiplayer skins.

Sooooooo basically you can make the game 10x easier buy buying this pass, how disappointing. This would have been much better if they would have provided more content instead of this childish nonsense.

I'm still buying Bioshock since it has been delay for like 3 times and as for those DLC, I have no reason to buy the Season Pass since there is no MP involve [which is good because this game does not need MP] I will wait for the reviews on what they say about each DLC so I can buy which ever is the best one. Bioshock: Infinite alone is good enough for a good single player and I have faith in Ken Levine for making the best FPS Single Player without MP.

From "BioShock Infinite goes gold" to "BioShock Infinite goes off my to-buy-list" within a few days.

At least this news is out a month before release, so people can put their money where their mouth is and react to it.

Hopefully "reacting" will mean more than just writing angry comments on gaming sites.

I doubt it.

@Kayweg The DLC has nothing to do with the main storyline, you aren't missing out on any part of the game by not buying. So enjoy your lack of fun from not playing Infinite with the rest of us.

@comb5 Rumor has it that other games will be released in 2013, i'm sure i can keep myself entertained. And thx for the enlightenment, but i actually read the details on the official site before posting.

Dragon_Nexus
Dragon_Nexus

@mrJLJ66 @comb5 Game's gone gold, dude. It's being printed. They can't add anything to it now.

Are the developers just supposed to sit in the studio with their thumbs up their butts until the game releases and *then* start doing some work?

SS3_Vegeta
SS3_Vegeta like.author.displayName 1 Like

@mrJLJ66 @comb5 I think you need to go learn about the development pipeline of making video games, then google the word 'deadline'. Funnily enough, adding additional content takes more time than making just the base content, so while DLC could be conceived at the beginning of the design process (or from ideas or mechanics that could not implemented in the base game due to time restraints), it's separate for a reason, because the additional content could not be implemented by the release deadline. That is, of course, unless you want the release pushed back 6+ months. The definition of DLC is 'optional' for a reason. Be glad you get anything more than the minimum - and if you don't like it, don't buy it!
Trust me, this is my vocation.

mrJLJ66
mrJLJ66

@comb5 I think the main issue is that they're working on DLC on a game before it's released and having the player buy it so close to launch. If the devs plan DLC before the game gets released, then why not just include it in the game itself?

@Kayweg @comb5

Here's a quote from the official website "...continue the player?s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories." Right there, that's what I'm talking about. It's not continuing the main campaign of the game, they're going to be seperate missions. It's not as if you can't complete the whole game without buying DLC.

Developers are normal workers just like the rest of us. If you get a huge project done for your company, do you just sit around afterwords and do nothing? No, you start on another project, which for Irrational is DLC.

I just see no reason that DLC being announced would make you do a 180 about wanting a game.

I'll be passing on this. Any DLC for a first person game as very little value to me. By the time I beat the game no DLC is out usually.  And I will hardly go back to a game a few months after I'm done to play a few hours of extra content...

SS3_Vegeta
SS3_Vegeta

@buffaloblitz85 Way to make the most of your money, friend. You're one of these people that trade in their games the day after the release date, aren't you?
You need to learn to stop and smell the roses, as it were. Or go play CoD.

buffaloblitz85
buffaloblitz85

@SS3_Vegeta @buffaloblitz85 No I'm 'one of those people' that will purchase a game when I can get some good use out of it and will rent it otherwise.  Who seriously plays a first person game several times through? 2 time's sure okay, but several BLAH. You sir are 'one of those people'  who keeps every game cause it is 'vintage' or aka 'classic'... but the truth is-- it is okay to use ipods and cellphones, as much as your tape player and pay phone are still 'used'

This kind of DLC talk(and different pre order bonuses from different stores...) before game published really turns me off :/ I just want a smooth running, decent game at first.

Dragon_Nexus
Dragon_Nexus

@cyberarmy The game's gone gold. Production has ceased.

Anything they announce now is something they could not add to the main game. Please come back when you understand how game development works on even a rudamentary level.

Why don't these a-holes just be honest and sell the games for $100 and just include the whole game.   Enough with this season pass crap.

Dragon_Nexus
Dragon_Nexus

@junglist101 So you're okay with paying $100 for the game and all its DLC if it means we wait longer for the game and get it in one complete package, but you object to paying $60 for the main game and $20 for the season pass later?

Makes sense.

danielwd

Well f**k. I'm still going to get this game, but now I'm waiting for a steam sale. Why the hell would you want damage upgrades and whatever those other things were, they make your game easier and thus shorter and less enjoyable.

The only reason DLC and Season Passes exist and are becomming common/expected practice is because people buy them. So, plus goes to the industry leaders for swindling people into believing they are worth it. I would rather buy an expansion with given details and its own release date than pre pay for unannounced "Extra" content that they will undoubtedly develop with the income generated from the passes as a variable to how good they will be. Atlease Bethesda releases expansions as DLC and the information is plastered all over the place before release.

junglist101
junglist101

@zfakta People buy it only because it's cheaper then buying all the parts individually.  It's still BS but that's why.

Zippon
Zippon like.author.displayName 1 Like

@zfakta So who's stopping you?  You can wait to purchase it for full price after details and reviews are released.  This is a chance to get that same content at a significant discount by having some faith in the developer.  It's no different than getting a magazine subscription at a deep discount as opposed to buying the issues individually for more, once you know what's in them.
