Apex Exclusive: New Nationwide Series team to debut at Daytona

Stacey

A new Nascar Nationwide Series team is set to hit the track next month for their debut race in the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona on February 23rd. The team name is KH Motorsports and it is owned and operated by 20-year old Canadian driver Dexter Stacey. Dexter made his NASCAR Nationwide series debut last season at Watkins Glen in the #23 R3 Motorsports car before running another 6 races throughout the season in the #39 Go Green Racing Ford with his best finish of 24th coming at Chicago in September. Not many details are available at this time as Stacey is still working on securing sponsorship and a manufacturer deal as well. What we do know is the team plans to run a full schedule and the crew chief of the KH Motorsports car will be veteran crew chief David Ingram. Ingram last worked with the #89 team of Morgan Shepherd for 5 races in 2011. In his career Ingram has worked with several drivers such as Morgan Shepherd, Michael McDowell, Blake Koch and Dennis Setzer to name a few. As details become available we will share them with you on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

We are hearing that Dexter Stacey will run a Roush Yates powered Ford Mustang this season. Dexter Stacey, who drove the #55 Dodge Challenger in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, will be making the jump to Ford in the Nationwide Series. He will now be using the same engines as Roush-Fenway Racing and Penske Racing in the Nationwide Series. Rumors are about that he could be making a push for the #55 as well, to match his old number in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

Dexter Stacey has gotten rights to use the #92 for the Nationwide Series. Still no word on sponsor, and is looking for one for the Drive4COPD 300 at Daytona, on February 23rd. He has also confirmed that it will be a team planning to run all the laps in the race, and it will not be a start-and-park team. Stacey, who will be moving from the Canadian Tire Series to the Nationwide Series, still plans on attempting the Canadian Tire Series race at Motorsports Park, and the Camping World Truck Series race as well, when it goes there for the first time on September 1st, 2013.

First thing I thought was.. How does he have enough money to start a Nationwide Team? It’s not like he won millions from racing…

It’s got to be his dad’s money. There’s no way he could of made that much money to start a Nationwide team that fast.

Dexter had a Nascar Canadian Tire Series team, I believe he sold that off to help pay for this venture

My prediction: They can’t secure a sponsor and are gone by the end of the year.

  6. I wouldn’t worry about finding sponsorship… he’s from the Kahnawake reserve in Quebec, his Dad has been funding him for years using revenue from very lucrative businesses.
