Rashmi Drolia, TNN Sep 3, 2013, 08.48PM IST RAIPUR: Seven people were arrested on charges of abduction, rape of 25-year-old girl and murdering her mother in Jashpur. Five of the accused belong to neighbouring Jharkhand.
Police said that locals often misbehaved with the deceased, for her alleged involvement in witchcraft. The incident took place on Monday, at Raikera village of Kunkuri block, when a group of seven men knocked the door of Patangi Bai, 55. On opening the door, the men assaulted and beat up Bai and her daughter. They dragged them to the field, where one of the accused raped the girl and killed the woman by slitting her throat.
Later, family members informed the police and seven people were nabbed on Tuesday. After interrogation, one of the accused, Ramlal Lohar and Satish, who are locals, admitted the crime saying that they planned the murder and hired people from Jharkhand, police said.
Ramlal said that Patangi Bai, often indulged in black magic along with few other women in the locality, due to which everyone in his family was keeping ill and not making any profit in business.
Other accused, Gunjan Kher, Anuranjan Lakra, Suman Kher, Esin Kher and Praphulla Thakur, all from Jharkhand- were arrested in this connection. Two accused are still on the run.
