DuckTales Remastered patch fixes bugs, adds cutscene skip option

DuckTales Remastered patch fixes bugs, adds cutscene skip option
Capcom has taken the DuckTales anthem to heart and rewritten history in the form of a patch for DuckTales: Remastered, a Capcom Unity post detailed this week. The patch's keystone is the new Quick Cinema mode, an option that unlocks after players complete the game (yes, even pre-patch completion saves work for this). Once activated, the option will let players skip "most of the cutscenes" in Remastered.

The rest of the patch will focus on more minor fixes. Those include a tweak to Scrooge's pogo attack to make it more reliable, as well as a few adjustments to address various glitches and freezes. This patch will also be applicable to the $19.99 physical versions scheduled for treasure hunts on the Xbox 360, Wii U and PS3 this Tuesday.

Allowing players to skip cutscenes will address one of the major problems Danny had with the game, writing in our review that Remastered's "focus on dialogue has a detrimental effect on DuckTales' underlying design."

The Rogues and Outlaws Collection is an obvious choice for any rogues and outlaws in your immediate family, serving up copies of Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line and Mafia 2. New dogs learn old tricks in Ultra Street Fighter 4

The Street Fighter 3 pugilists invading Ultra Street Fighter 4 won't be mere visual callbacks to the earlier game, they'll also come equipped with fan-favorite attacks.

In a Capcom Unity blog post, producer Tomoaki Ayano details the returning fighters' signature attacks. Rolento leaps into the air before throwing knives, Poison whips a pink projectile, Hugo crushes opponents in his massive, Andre the Giant-inspired hands and Elena extends a leg to kick her foe's head off. If you've spent any amount of time with the later Street Fighter 3 iterations, these attacks will be immediately familiar, and it should please players to see them return in Ultra Street Fighter 4.

As Ayano points out, the moves he outlines are subject to change over the next few months, but it seems unlikely that they'll entirely disappear. The attacks Ayano outlines are iconic in the minds of Street Fighter fans, and if there's one group Capcom would hate to upset, it's the virtual fighting community.

Disney Infinity doubles quarterly earnings for Disney Interactive

The release of Disney Infinity drove a 107-percent increase in fourth-quarter revenue for Disney's Interactive division, the company revealed in its quarterly financial report.

Disney notes that its Interactive division took in $396 million in revenue during the quarter ending September 28, 2013. Disney Interactive's revenue totaled $191 million during the fourth quarter of last year.

"Improved operating results for the quarter and year were due to increases at our console games and Japan mobile businesses," the report states. "The increase at our console games business was primarily due to the fourth quarter release of Disney Infinity."

The bounceback follows up on Disney Interactive's $54 million operating income loss in the second quarter of 2013. Disney Infinity represented a significant risk for the division, as parent company Disney passed on the opportunity to produce games based on the Iron Man and Star Wars franchises in order to focus on Infinity's development.

During a conference call this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that more than one million Disney Infinity Starter Packs were sold across all available platforms since the game's release in August.

SoulCalibur: Lost Swords fights alongside friends in new screens

SoulCalibur Lost Swords finds new screens
Namco's newly released screens of free-to-play, single-player entry SoulCalibur: Lost Swords are more revealing than they first seem. According to Siliconera, what we're looking at is a support system that lets you temporarily swap in a friend's character for your own.

Namco Bandai hasn't released any concrete details on what modes feature in Lost Swords, but we do know the game's running on the "next iteration" of the SoulCalibur 5 engine. As Producer Masaaki Hashino told us in September, "The game system itself is quite different, it's been more streamlined and simplified so that people can more easily perform flashy, over-the-top maneuvers,"

Soulcalibur: Lost Swords is due to hit the PlayStation Network this winter.

PSN friends list increase lets you mingle with 2000 best buds

PSN friends list increase lets you mingle with 2000 best buds
PlayStation socialites can add 2000 of their nearest and dearest to their PSN friends list, after Sony activated the previously-announced limit increase this week. You can begin cultivating your buddy list via the Vita ahead of the PS4's launch next week, but the PS3 XMB still supports up to 100 pals only.

If your friend count goes over the 100 mark on PS4 or Vita, PS3 servers will automatically filter in active friends on the XMB. According to PlayStation Europe Community Manager Chris Owen, you'll be able to lock a preset PS3 friends list if you so wish. Additionally, Sony is planning support to display all of your friends in "most applications and games" on the system, but some games will keep to the 100 friends limit.

DC Universe Online 're-launches' on PS4, remains compatible with PS3 game

When Sony Online Entertainment launches the PlayStation 4 incarnation of DC Universe Online on November 15, the game will look shiny and new, even if under the hood it's largely the same adventure.

As you'd expect, the PlayStation 4 game will look much better than its predecessor. According to senior creative producer Jens Andersen, the DC Universe Online team has reworked much of the original game's art for the new platform. "We're targeting 1080p at 60 frames per second," stated Andersen.

Most crucially, players on either the PS4 or PS3 side of DC Universe Online will be able to play alongside one another. No new content is being added to the PS4 game that's not already available in its predecessor, so this cross-compatibility shouldn't throw off the game's balance. Further, Andersen mentions a number of tweaks to core game systems that should make the learning curve less daunting while also rendering the game as a whole more intuitive to new players.

You can find more details on what to expect when DC Universe Online hits the PlayStation 4 at Sony's official PlayStation.blog.

Hoping to honor composer, fan crafts new Ni no Kuni score

Sam Joseph Delves adores the score composed for Ni no Kuni by Joe Hisaishi. So much so that he's enlisted professional musicians to help him recreate the entire thing.

Initially, Delves' thought to capture the attention of Hisaishi by simply re-creating his Ni no Kuni score as a hobby. Delves set up a Tumblr (aptly title "SamScoresNiNoKuni") to document his efforts, but once word spread, he received an unexpected outpouring of support for his work.

The video you see above is Delves performing alongside an orchestra enlisted by BBC documentary composer Howard Davidson. The SamScoresNiNoKuni Tumblr features an additional 15 songs drawn from the game, and those of you who particularly enjoy Delves' take on Hisaishi's music can download a free, three-song EP directly from the site.

Despite Delves' impressive work, he has yet to have any contact with Joe Hisaishi.

Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock sequels canceled

A planned trilogy of games based on the long-running British sci-fi drama Doctor Who has been cut short, as the British Broadcasting Corporation confirmed with Polygon that two sequels for Supermassive Games' adventure game Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock have been canceled.

Developed in a licensing partnership with the BBC, The Eternity Clock premiered for the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PC platforms last year to a largely negative critical reception. Speaking to Polygon, the BBC's vice president of digital entertainment and games Paul Joffe noted that while the corporation's relationship with Supermassive "was and continues to be good," no further partnership projects are planned following next week's release of the PlayStation Move educational game Wonderbook: Walking with Dinosaurs.

Supermassive Games' current project is Until Dawn, a "teen horror movie"-styled game for the PlayStation Move.

PSN sci-fi sale brings futuristic savings to Europe

While North America gets punchy with a brawler-themed sale this week, PlayStation Network members in Europe enjoy a region-exclusive round of price drops on several dozen sci-fi games for the PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PSP.

Featured games include Platinum Games' Vanquish (now £3.95/€4.94), Ubisoft's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (£4.79/€5.99), and Capcom's Lost Planet 3 (£19.99/€29.99). Sci-fi themed DLC also gets the sale treatment -- Saints Row: The Third's "Gangstas in Space" add-on is £1.61/€1.97, and Space Invaders: Infinity Gene's DLC sees a price reduction across the board.

PlayStation Plus members get an additional discount of up to 25 percent on all featured games. The sale will continue through November 20.

Skullgirls patches held up by 'deep business dealings'

Image
Skullgirls publishing partners Autumn Games and Konami have ended their business relationship, but we can't confirm that the two don't go off for a cuddle every so often. Skullgirls patches for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have apparently been held up due to some behind-the-scenes complications between the two companies, but that will no longer be a problem.

"Things have not always been hunky-dory between Autumn Games and Konami. Around the time of the last update, it became clear that it would not be possible to proceed with the new patches as long as Konami was involved with Skullgirls," wrote Peter Bartholow of Skullgirls developer Lab Zero Games in a company update. "So, as of today, Autumn and Konami have terminated their business relationship, allowing us to move forward with the PS3 and Xbox 360 patch in a more timely and cost-effective manner."

Bartholow notes the testing of the patches is "nearly complete," but now the team has to go through the digital paperwork shuffle of moving the game over to a new publisher. Autumn Games will be the game's PSN publisher, but because "Microsoft doesn't support purely digital publishers," Autumn is partnering with MarvelousAQL for Xbox Live, otherwise "Microsoft would simply delist the game from the Marketplace."

"We apologize that these deep business dealings have come between you and the first character your collective efforts have funded, but we're confident that subsequent patches will go more smoothly with this all of this behind us," Bartholow concluded.

Diablo 3 levels up to 14 million copies sold

Activision-Blizzard revealed Diablo 3 sales are now at 14 million, meaning a further 4 million heroes ventured into Sanctuary in the last 12 months. Speaking during yesterday's investors' call, Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime said his company is "pleased" with the RPG's commercial performance on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Morhaime didn't specify how many sales came directly from the console ports, which were released two months ago.

Blizzard must be hopeful there are even more sales to come. The action-RPG is due on the PS4 next year, as is the game's first expansion, Reaper of Souls.

Synthetic singer goes portable in Vita's Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F

The cute-as-a-button rhythm game action found in the PlayStation 3's Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is now making its way to the Vita handheld.

For those unaware, Hatsune Miku is the name attached to a popular synthesizer program designed to resemble and replicate Japan's young, female pop idols. Hatsune Miku is not now, nor has ever been a real person, but this hasn't stopped the electronic being from being featured in video games, anime series and albums bearing her faux-human likeness.

While all of this is quite novel in a Gibsonian futurist sort of way, the gameplay in Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is not. Our review of the PlayStation 3 version of the game said it was "about as basic as a music game can get" and that in lieu of any major flaws, "it simply fails to do anything particularly interesting."

The Vita incarnation of
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is slated to debut in North America during the early part of 2014.

Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate Core Fighters eclipses 500,000 downloads

Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate Core Fighters, a free-to-play adaptation of Tecmo Koei's one-on-one fighting game series for the PlayStation 3, has been downloaded more than 500,000 times since its launch in September.

Released alongside the retail version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, Core Fighters features a limited selection of characters and modes, offering a story component and other content via add-on purchases. Shortly after Core Fighters was announced, rival fighting game publisher Namco Bandai countered with the free-to-play Tekken Revolution, which has been downloaded more than two million times since June.

Dead or Alive 5: Ultimate and Core Fighters are updated with new content frequently, with last month bringing the release of Halloween-themed character costumes. Developer Team Ninja continues the trend with this week's launch of downloadable Tecmo Bowl uniforms for Bass, Bayman, Leon, Rachel, Tina and Zack. Players who purchase any of the six new football costumes will also receive a free downloadable copy of the retro football revival Tecmo Bowl Throwback for the PlayStation 3.

The NWO invades WWE 2K14 next week

Come November 12, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and the rest of their black-clad New World Order cronies will wreak havoc in WWE 2K14, much as they did in WCW all those years ago.

Included in the pack are Nash, Hall, the "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Curt Hennig, Scott Steiner, Syxx and The Giant. Most of these wrestlers are already in WWE 2K14, but this DLC specifically adds their New World Order incarnations from the mid-to-late 90s. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan is notably absent from the NWO DLC, but that's only because his NWO persona is available in WWE 2K14 by default.

The NWO pack will set you back $9, unless you have purchased the WWE 2K14 season pass. In that case, the DLC (and the two other packs slated to follow over the next few months) are totally gratis.

Rocksmith 2014 expands playable catalog with Iron Maiden, Hotei tracks

Ubisoft has released a new batch of downloadable content for its guitar instructional game Rocksmith 2014 Edition, adding a metalicious 5-track injection from Iron Maiden, along with new songs from legendary Japanese guitarist Tomoyasu Hotei.

Rocksmith 2014's new Maiden tracks include "2 Minutes To Midnight," "Aces High," "Run To The Hills," "Fear Of The Dark," and "The Number Of The Beast." Thankfully, Rocksmith does not require players to master the nightmarish percussion track from "Run To The Hills" -- Rock Band Endless Setlist veterans can insert a sigh of relief here -- though its lengthy solo will prove even more challenging for novice guitarists.

Tomoyasu Hotei's additions include the singles "Thrill" and "Bambina," along with the Kill Bill theme "Battle Without Honor or Humanity." The guitarist's tracks have previously been featured in Konami's Guitar Freaks series, and Hotei himself starred in the impossibly cheesy PSOne rhythm game Stolen Song, so he's certainly no stranger to the world of video games.

Rocksmith 2014's new tracks are priced at $2.99 individually. An Iron Maiden five-pack is also available for $11.99, while the three-song Hotei pack will cost you $7.99.

38 Studios lawyer to request delay for IP auction

Richard Land, the court-appointed lawyer for 38 Studios, said he plans to ask a Rhode Island Superior Court judge to delay the now-defunct studio's intellectual property auction. The auction was originally slated to take place on November 14 and include the Project Copernicus MMO that was in development at 38 Studios prior to its May 2012 closure as well as sequel and merchandise rights and revenue for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Land told The Providence Journal that interest in the auction has been "greater than expected" from prospective bidders, leading to the request to delay the auction for "a couple weeks." The auction was also slated to include Big Huge Games properties Rise of Nations, Rise of Legends and XBLA game Catan.

Rockstar doles out Grand Theft Auto 5 Stimulus Package starting today

Rockstar has begun dropping $500,000 in cold, hard, digital cash into Grand Theft Auto 5 players' accounts staring today, the studio announced. The money is meant to make up for Grand Theft Auto Online's rocky launch, and it should be applied to the accounts of everyone who played (or tried to play) Online in October.

The Stimulus Package was delayed in late October, with Rockstar citing persistent bugs that it wanted to iron out before dropping the money in players' pockets. Now that the Stimulus Package has started deploying, it should reach all eligible players by Friday, November 8.

Call of Duty: Ghosts scene very similar to Modern Warfare 2's ending

Internet sleuths have found Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 share some strikingly similar sequences. Did Infinity Ward reproduce or re-purpose animations and assets from Modern Warfare 2 for Ghosts? It's hard to argue against this side-by-side comparison video.

We've reached out to Activision for comment and will update this post when we hear back.
