EXCLUSIVE: The Crow will fly with Welsh actor Luke Evans playing the title role in the F. Javier Gutierrez-directed franchise reboot for Relativity Media. Evans was the original choice, but he has been incredibly busy. He was just cast as the lead in Dracula Year Zero, he is the villain in Fast & Furious 6 and is Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Evans seemed to be unavailable because of production on Dracula and promotion on The Hobbit. The distributor looked at Tom Hiddleston and more recently Alexander Skarsgard, the latter of whom has a bunch of offers after Warner Bros halted Tarzan. Ultimately, they have decided to push the start date to early next year to accommodate his schedule in order to secure Evans, who is currently promoting the release of Fast 6. So hey junket guys, be sure to ask him about it. They are now in negotiations and I expect the deal to make. He seems an ideal fit for the role originated by Brandon Lee, who died tragically during production on the 1994 Alex Proyas-directed revenge story based on the James O’Barr comic book series. He’s repped by WME and United Agents.

Awesome casting! Script must be bad ass.
I have never heard of Luke Evans or watched anything he has been in. The best thing on his CV is the up and coming Hobbit and that is only a supporting part if that. I might have shown some interest in the Crow has they cast Tom Hiddleston or James McAvoy because with the right script and direction they chances are they would have brought something new and interesting to the role but it seems they have distanced themselves from the part. From what I have heard recently on other sights re the script its a good thing they did. Marvel/Batman have proved with the right actors/directors and scripts you can make great remakes but this is one I will pass on.
Brilliant choice. Brilliant.
Yeah, well, good luck when you will flop. That Crow remake would be hard to sell to viewers even with Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard. How they plan to sell it with completely unknown Luke Evans is beyond me.
Luke Evans may be good supporting actor. Even in big movies. But he is forgettable in them and is not lead actor. What the budget will be? How much they plan to earn at domestic? 30 millions? 50 millions? 80 millions? That Crow movie is not adored by people. Only some fans love it. But that is it.
It may get some 12 millions on opening and then finish with 28 millions. It’s not worth all that hype with casting.
You’re joking right? Unknown like Luke Evans? HAHA I’m going to assume you’ve been living under a rock. Honestly Evans is the better choice of the three names here. He’s the only one of those who embodies the original Eric Draven in any way, shape, or form. I wouldn’t be asking how they’re going to sell this because of Evans, I would just be asking how they’re going to sell this remake, period! The Crow is such a cult classic and given the stigma surrounding the original, why bother touching it? I don’t know when Hollywood is ever going to understand the idea “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!”
Not enough pr speak. Back to fetching coffee for you.
PR speak? No thank you. I don’t speak liar. I do not now nor have I ever fetched someone’s coffee. I have my degrees thank you and a job in which I actually love. I’m not a gopher but do have a few that work for me. Perhaps you’d like to leave your qualifications? Just fyi though, you might want to leave ‘asshole’ off the list. You’re not likely to find someone interested in your childish retorts.
Preach it some more my friend. you have no idea how fucking right you are. Rebooting The Crow is like pissing on Jesus’ feet, just not a good idea to do.
When will you people GET IT??? This movie is not a REMAKE. It is a NEW CROW MOVIE, based on the ORIGINAL COMIC BOOK, backed by J. O’Barr, creator of the character.
Finish at 28mil? Not bad for a movie that will flop. It will rake some at international market. I think they are pushing him because he’s the lead in Hobbit 2,3. This movie is not going to be a blockbuster no matter who takes the lead role. Tom? Alexander? No way.
for the girl ? Jodelle or Moretz… They are still young enough to reprise the original role
Chloe would be a major score for the role.
He’s still out on his Wikipedia.
Yeah, it’s quite disgusting that in this business even if you were out before you need to go back into closet to have a career. Absolutely appalling.
No one will ever be able to replicate the magic that Brandon Lee brought to “The Crow”, especially not this guy!!!! I hope this movie never makes it to production!!
Here, here!
@ St. Dude you’re on crack if you think the crow isn’t adored by people. It absolutely is adored by MILLIOns of people. Bruce lee’s son died making this film. To this day it is one of the most treasured cult classics of all time. This movie was a memorable staple in my childhood as well as many many others childhoods and adulthoods. One of the most if not THE most romantic, violent, dramatic, action, fantasy
Brilliant, this movie is going to be a surprise..
Such downgrade imo.
Relativity doesn’t understand its demographic. And gay is not a problem with yaoi-loving teen girls. It’s a bonus. What is a problem with teen girls is leads who look old and Evans looks 40 on a good day. He also has a very chilly presence. If Relativity had any brains they would cast a Kpop star and be able to sell it throughout Asia. Spirit/revenge flick plus Kpop star would have money raining down on Relativity’s empty heads from Asia. The Brit boy trend in the US is dying down and Kpop boys are what is now getting teen girls’ panties wet. Relativity, your money isn’t coming from fanboys or 40 year olds who fondly remember the original movie. It’s TEEN GIRLS. If those fools can’t even figure that out, they are hopeless.
Luke Evans has all the talent in the world. He’s as good of an actor as you will find and really holds the screen, pushing through that fourth wall, connecting with the viewer. Just needs the right material and he blow up as a leading man.
What is this PR bullshit? Is your boss standing over your shoulder, intern?
Luke evans is a very talented and charismatic actor. The only thing I’m worrying is the script.
Would have been interested in watching it if Tom Hiddleson was cast but this Evans fellow? No thanks.
Assuming this Crow is in any way similar to the many previous incarnations, Hiddleston was completely wrong for the role…and would’ve looked dreadful in the makeup.
Brilliant, this movie is going to be next year’s surprise..
Thumbs up.
This movie gonna flop so bad.
I am so GAY with happiness!
Another bomb for relativity
does Relativity have the money to actually make a movie though?
Luke, everybody knows and nobody cares.
Just because he’s unknown doesn’t mean he can’t act. He’s brilliant. Just you wait! Perfect choice.
Fire it up!
Lame. Like most movies The Crow doesn’t need to be remade. The original was a cult classic & a favorite amongst the old Goths from the 90s & they’re all either dead or in rehab.
And I’ve never heard of this guy in my life.
Now would be a good time for Evans to buy that life insurance policy.
this guy looks old
he’s a cool actor, defently gonna be checkin out No One Lives, Fast and Furious 6 and other Luke Evans feature film.
would’ve loved to see Alexander Skarsgaard as the role, after seeing him on True Blood and in the film Disconnect, he’s a great choice for The Crow.
On one hand, he’s better than earlier rumored casting choices like Ryan Reynolds or Bradley Cooper, or the brief time when they suggested Skrillex.
On the other hand, he’s a downgrade from Tom Hiddleston, who has the charisma and acting chops for the role.
In the two movies I’ve seen Luke Evens in, Immortals and the Three Musketeers, he’s had less than ten lines combined. Maybe he’ll be awesome in the Hobbit, but at this point, he doesn’t have the right resume to take on The Crow.
Plus, this still doesn’t fix the biggest issue with the casting at all – they are recasting a role famous for a rising star dying on camera playing it. Brandon Lee will forever be Eric Draven, and this has been part of the reason the remake has been greeted with scorn for years, and why many Crow fans continue to be weary of the talked about remake.
Look, I get it Hollywood, remakes are big money, and in the era of big comic book adaptations, a title like the Crow may be too big to not cash in on, even if the original is a classic loved by millions since its release. Yet at ever turn, the remake has taken the wrong turns, and done all it can to make sure those same fans boycott the film when it opens – and like it or not, this movie will need those fans if it wants to be more than a box office bomb like the ill-advised remakes of classics like Conan the Barbarian or Nightmare on Elm Street.
The sad thing is, appeasing fans of the original would be so simple if they insist on going ahead with the new film – don’t call the main character Eric Draven. That character died with Brandon Lee back in 1993, and the connection between the actor and the role is part of what makes the original so powerful and so beloved. If they insist on remaking the original film, come up with a new name to go with the new actor. Show respect for the original film, show that the remake is more than a blatant cash grab, maybe then the fans of the original will look at this film differently – or at the very least, let the late Brandon Lee and his most iconic role rest in peace on their laurels.
After all, it can’t rain all the time.
“…Show respect for the original film, show that the remake is more than a blatant cash grab…”
The remake is a blatant cash grab. They should try to deceive the audience into thinking it isn’t a blatant cash grab. I think that’s what you’re trying to suggest.
I only know this guy from his little now-I-am-gay/now-I-am-straight magic trick.
How will they market this misguided remake without dealing with the orientation issue? Its the most written thing about him! Maybe he will come out once again………which would make him the first Out Action star. Or maybe he will barrow deeper in the closet……
Don’t worry. Not many audeince do care about those things.
