History

The Craig Campus of Colorado Northwestern Community College was created in 1989 when Moffat County residents voted to establish the tax supported Moffat County Affiliated Junior College District. In 1999, the Craig and Rangely campuses joined the Colorado Community College and Occupational Educational System (CCCOES).

 

Location

Situated in the beautiful Yampa Valley, the city of Craig is a hub of activity, located between Salt Lake City and Denver and between Wyoming 1-80 and Grand Junction, Colorado. Local industry includes coal mining, electricity generation, ranching, guide and outfitting and tourism. Museums, shops, movie theatre, bowling alley, ice skating rink, baseball and soccer parks, fishing, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, motorcycling, hiking and biking are enjoyed by community members and visitors. Events encourage people to enjoy living in Craig. Downtown Craig Art Walk, Grand Olde West Days, Whittle the Wood, Little Britches Rodeo, Moffat County Fair, Moffat County Balloon Festival, Sheep Wagon Days, and Parade of Lights are some of the attractions that draw visitors to the area.

New Campus Opened August 2011!

In the spring 2010, construction began on a new campus, located on 100 acres in west Craig near the existing facility. Located just north of the recently completed Memorial Hospital, the striking CNCC-Craig Campus opened August 8, 2011. The 78,000 square foot LEED certified academic building, overlooking the Yampa Valley and Cedar Mountain, houses classrooms, science laboratories, a virtual library, the Nursing program, Adult Learning Assistance Center (ALAP) and a student lounge. Our academic building is The 14,000 square foot career technical building east of the academic building is home to the Cosmetology, Massage Therapy, and Mine Safety Training programs. The Automotive and Diesel Technology shop is north of the career technical building. CNCC’s Craig-based Diesel program will be offered starting January 2012. CNCC - Craig Campus is a beautiful, state-of-the-art, green facility, featuring a geo exchange system to heat and cool the campus. Visitors and community members are always welcome and invited to visit CNCCs newest facility!

 

Craig Bell Tower Building

CNCC Community Education program and offices for several non-profit organizations are located at the Bell Tower Building, south of Craig on Highway 13. The Bell Tower continues to provide computer labs and classrooms for life-long learning and community interest courses.

 

Learning Opportunities

Craig Campus offers a variety of programs and degrees. Partial tuition assistance is available to local residents taking credit-bearing coursework. Qualifying high school students, recent high school graduates and returning college students complete coursework and transfer degrees by attending on-site and virtual classroom courses through the Internet with real-time instructors. Preparatory classes and General Equivalency Diploma (GED) classes are available for students to prepare to take college-level course or complete the GED program. Community members and industry use CNCC for job training, retraining and employment skills development. Moffat County Community members, long-time supporters of the college, are understandably proud of CNCCs new campus in Craig.
