New Super Mario Bros. 2 artwork, featuring SMB 3-style blocks and the return of the clown copter deal from Super Mario World. I love these big landscape pieces Nintendo is doing for Mario games now. I also love how ridiculous all the new gold-plated enemies and powerups are. Look at Gold Lakitu in his gold cloud! How would that even work? Is it vaporized liquid gold?
Both Eric and I have talked at length about what we believe to be the motivation behind this weird new “greed” theme, but perhaps we both overlooked the obvious: it’s really funny.
