Local Excellence - Local Excellence (LE) Projects Home

In 2011 the LGA launched the Local Excellence Program and invited Councils to respond to four theme papers and to 68 project proposals. The Program incorporates a range of new reform activities that the LGA is seeking to engage Councils in and incorporates current activities that fit within the aims of the Program, which are to:

Redefine the role and functions of Councils in key areas of activity;
Consolidate opportunities and identify service innovation using test sites;
Enhance the skills of staff and Council Members in governance and community engagement;
Identify the barriers to service delivery, governance and intergovernmental excellence in SA and strategies to raise performance; and
Undertake research to enhance future State/Local Government relations.

The Program comprises four themes, Community Engagement; Financial Reform; Service Efficiencies & Effectiveness; and Governance. For information on each theme and the projects in that theme, click on the menu button above titled Local Excellence Project Themes.

Local Excellence Projects

A report on the status of all Local Excellence Projects is presented bi-monthly at the LGA State Board Meetings and also at the LGA Ordinary General and Annual General Meetings.

LE Expert Panel announced

An expert panel, has been appointed by the LGA, to help guide and focus what we learn from Local Excellence and the development of a vision for 'Councils of the Future'.

My Local Services App

As part of the LGA's Local Excellence Program, the LGA is sponsoring an initiative on behalf of SA Councils to develop an app for mobile devices that provides the community with location-based information about their local area.

Regional Airport Discussion Paper

The LGA, along with the South East LGA, Grant and Narracoorte Lucindale Councils and the SA Tourism Commission, has commissioned a report on the future of SA's regional airports. The report has found that SA's regional airports face considerable long-term challenges from changing industry and economic factors.
