Irish Bishops

The Church of Ireland is also a member of the Anglican Communion; it is one church embracing Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. There are two Archbishops of the Church of Ireland: Armagh and Dublin.

Bishops are styled as for diocesan bishops in the Church of England, except for the Bishop of Meath (Premier Bishop of the Church of Ireland) who is styled ‘The Most Rev’ instead of ‘The Rt Rev’.

A retired Irish bishop would be addressed on an envelope as ‘The Rt Rev John Carnaby’, and a letter would begin ‘Dear Bishop’.
