Ian Hislop

Editor, Private Eye

Ian Hislop is the editor of Private Eye, the UK’s number one bestselling news and current affairs magazine. With a readership of over 700,000, the satirical magazine reaches an enormous audience. Born in Swansea as the son of a civil engineer, he and his family moved extensively during his childhood, living in Nigeria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong before he returned to school in the UK. Hislop has said that his childhood ended at the age of twelve following the death of his father, which made him increasingly independent. He joined Private Eye at the age of 21 and became editor only five years later, remaining in that position for the last 29 years. In Private Eye, Hislop exposes corruption through humorous investigation and is reportedly the most sued man in British journalism.
