General Sir Richard Barrons

Joint Forces Command

As commander of Joint Forces Command, General Sir Richard Barrons’s main mission is to make all three armed services act as one, managing their allocated joint capabilities. Barrons has assumed a range of regimental duties both at home and abroad, having served in Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan in UK, UN and NATO posts. For Barrons, being deployed at short notice to countries like Afghanistan and Bosnia at the start of international engagement when complexity and uncertainty are rife is one of the greatest challenges of his job. Under his guiding hand, Joint Forces Command has advanced to become an integral feature of the UK defence landscape having won the argument for the redistribution of £1 billion into capabilities such as communications, intelligence and Special Forces.
