At Skanska UK, deep green is the colour to aim for. The construction company uses a colour palette to code its building projects and green is its target.

The firm is chasing construction methods that produce no waste, use no hazardous or unsustainable materials and have near-zero carbon emissions, zero use of primary energy and water — so no drinking-quality water is wasted.

Skanska UK is named today as the greenest business in Britain by The Sunday Times Green List.

The fourth annual awards, contained in a 28-page supplement published free with today’s newspaper, are contested by companies of all sizes with a variety of environmental impacts, ranging from high to low.

It is the first time the competition has been won by a large company with a high environmental impact. The survey measures the degree of change and sustainability that companies are able to achieve whatever the environmental footprint of
