MA Programmes

The University for Peace (UPEACE) Master of Arts* programmes offer to students a variety of areas related to Peace, Environment, International Law, Gender, and Education among many other specializations. The wide array of our students coming from all around the world, with different backgrounds and interests make the University for Peace a unique place to share experiences and to enrich the academic knowledge.

A Master of Arts* at the University for Peace consists of an intensive one year, face to face programme, comprising of academic courses and one final graduation project. The language of instruction at UPEACE is English and our programmes are aimed to students holding a bachelor degree or equivalent.

The minimum number of credits required for all UPEACE MA programmes is 40 credits within an eleven-month period. Exceptions are made for programmes operating within the framework of partnership agreements.

One UPEACE credit is equivalent to 15 hours of direct faculty instruction plus 30 hours of student work. In other words, one UPEACE credit equals 45 hours of academic work in total.

The UPEACE final graduation project comprises 8 credits, which is equivalent to 120 hours of tutoring by a faculty advisor plus 240 hours of independent research, curriculum development or internship work. This is also equivalent to 360 hours in total.

*In August 2014, UPEACE will be offering a joint Master of Science programme with Oregon State University, and UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education for first time.
