600 couples wedded at Ijtema


LAHORE: The wedding ceremony of 600 couples was held on Saturday at the International Tablighi Ijtema in Raiwind. The three-day Ijtema started after Asar prayer on Thursday and would end on Sunday after prayers for the solidarity of the country and the well being of Muslims. Around 1.5 million Muslims from different walks of life living abroad and within the country attended the Ijtima. During the Ijtima various religious leaders delivered sermons urging people to lead their lives according to the teachings of the Holy Quran and devote themselves to humane causes. All security and emergency departments including police, special branches, intelligence bureaus, fire brigade, civil defence, bomb disposal squads and hospitals' emergency wards had been on alert and officials had been ordered to strictly deal with threats.Law enforcement officials had been deployed in the areas of the Ijtema and the city police had also arranged camps and wireless control rooms inside the Ijtema. Sources added that the city police had arranged check posts, police patrols and the presence of other law enforcing agencies on the route to the Itjtema. Lahore traffic police had finalised 90 duty points while eight deputy superintendents, 34 inspectors, 56 sub-inspectors, 91 assistant sub-inspectors, 117 head constables and 450 constables were deputed for the Ijtema. shahnawaz khan
