The Wedding Vows

The wedding vows should be said clearly and confidently, as previously rehearsed with the officiant. If any names are muddled up or lines forgotten, a sense of humour helps and the officiant will step in to rectify the situation. The groom goes first, followed by the bride.

To Love, Honour and 'Obey'

The Church of England is unique in including this word in its traditional wedding vows - while the bride promises to 'obey', the groom vows to 'worship' his wife. The couple are perfectly free to omit these words; an alternative that many couples choose is 'to love and to honour'.
