David Hockney, OM, CH

ARTIST

Painter, printmaker, set designer and photographer David Hockney was one of the leading figures of the pop art movement of the ’60s, and has enjoyed success and popularity ever since. Versatile in both medium and subject matter, he is perhaps best known for his vivid Yorkshire landscapes and photo montages, but has more recently experimented in portraits created using the brushes application on the iPad and iPhone. Hockney attended the Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London, where he took part in the famous Young Contemporaries Exhibition. He later moved to Los Angeles where he created his iconic sun-drenched swimming pool paintings, and by the mid-1970s began to move from painting into photography, lithography and costume design. In a 2011 poll of more than 1,000 British artists, Hockney was voted the most influential of all time.
