Tom Hanks has offered an update on his involvement in Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 4′, revealing he has already finished his first stint in the recording studio reprising his role as cowboy Woody.
Pixar’s sequel is targeting a July 2018 release, so there’s a long while to go yet, but production is in full swing.

Asked about the project by Simon Mayo on Mayo and Mark Kermode’s Radio 5 Live film review show (starts 50:55), Hanks responded: “They used to have an entire script, like a regular movie, then they just started showing us the storyboards - ‘Here’s what you’re going to do, here’s what you’re going to do’.
“On the third movie they put us [the cast] all in a room and we watched an animatic [animated storyboards] with scratch dialogue and watched a whole movie before we recorded a single word of it.
“Now they just show us the stuff that we’re in, and keep everything else top secret. So I’ve gone along, I’ve worked alone and with Annie Potts - who plays Bo Peep - and the thing is, animated movies take about three and a half years to make. You go in about every six months and do a little bit work.“
When the film was announced last August co-director and Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter (who will direct alongside newbie Josh Cooley) said: “It’s a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Woody and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) head out to find Bo.”
The film is current scheduled for release on 13 July 2018.
