KINGSTON, Jamaica - The rising star of Jamaica’s female sprinting, Elaine Thompson, has withdrawn from the 100m at the Supreme Ventures National Senior Championship.

Thompson, 22, has been having a breakout year, culminating with a personal best of 10.84 seconds in Eugene, USA, on May 30 and was expected to seriously challenge sprint queen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Garth Gayle, the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) general secretary, said he was informed of Thompson’s withdrawal recently.

It is another blow to athletics fans who wanted to see Thompson take on her training partner Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown in the final on Friday night.

Fans were already disappointed that they will not be seeing Usain Bolt in action, matching strides with Asafa Powell and company.
