James Cook University - Psychology student meet and greet

Please come and join us on this social event for APS members and JCU psychology students to meet and greet.

This is a wonderful opportunity for APS members to share their career experiences with those new to the profession and to meet those new to the discipline.

There will be a combination of presentations from local APS members who elect to present and a less formal social gathering with refreshments provided.

APS Careers In Psychology Seminar 2016

The annual APS Careers in Psychology Information Seminar, coordinated by the APS Melbourne Branch Student Working Party, provides secondary and undergraduate psychology students an insight into several specialist areas of psychology. 

Speakers from each of the nine colleges of the APS will present information about career paths, postgraduate programs, employment opportunities and characteristics of each field of psychology, to assist students in the process of vocational selection, and also broadens students' understanding of the role of psychologists in the community.  The colleges include:

COP Careers Fair 2016

Our annual Careers Fair is a popular event amongst psychology students, graduates and early career professionals working in the field of Organisational Psychology.  The fair offers great opportunities for guests to network, meet with experts in the profession, and learn more about what it is an Organisational Psychologist offers.

You will get the chance to meet with representatives from a range of organisations that appreciates the unique skills and knowledge offered by organisational psychologists.  We will have 4 valued guest speakers who will share with us their experience working in the profession.

Refreshment and beverages are provided throughout the evening. 

Self-Care for Trainee Psychologists

Trainee and early career psychologists must navigate a variety of challenges as they enter the profession. While balancing clinical practice, research, and coursework (along with the rest of their lives), it is essential that they are able to adequately maintain their own wellbeing. This is aimed at psychologists with provisional or general registration who are postgraduate/4+2/5+1 training, although all psychologists are welcome. 

Strategies for self-care and related exercises will be the primary focus of the workshop.

Mini Research Showcase

Adelaide, South Australia, 25 October 2016

7:30pm to 8:30pm (6:30pm start if joining us for dinner)

The Kings, 357 King William Street (Cnr King will St and Sturt St), Adelaide  SA  5000

The showcase will allow for a snapshot of current research being undertaken in Adelaide by early career researchers in this field, foster future research ideas and allow for networking opportunities. Presenters will be Honours, Masters and PhD students working in the field of eating, weight and body image.

Presenters will present for 5 minutes followed by discussion. Presentations will be on research projects within the field of weight, eating and body image and the potential implications of any findings for clinicians.

Researchers interested in presenting should email the following information to ivanka.prichard@flinders.edu.au  by the 11th of October 2016:

An abstract for a current research project (no more than 250 words), including:

  • Title
  • Background
  • Aims
  • Method
  • Results
  • Conclusions
  • The name and contact details of supervisors
  • The name of the course they are undertaking
  • In progress projects will also be considered

We would also encourage supervisors to attend the showcase in order to support their students and help them incorporate suggestions from the team in their research endeavours. Please pass this information on to students or researchers who may be interested in participating or attending.
