George H.W. Bush, Barbara will not attend Trump inauguration

Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara will not be attending the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

A spokesperson for the 41st president, Jim McGrath, says due to the couples' ages "and all that entails," the two will not be able to attend the January 20 event in Washington, DC. He also did not attend the 2013 inauguration of President Barack Obama.

President Bush is the oldest living former commander-in-chief at the age of 92. Mrs. Bush is 91.

Their oldest son, Former President George W. Bush, and his wife Laura will be in attendance for the Trump inauguration.

Neither President Bush endorsed the Republican Trump. McGrath said his vote in the 2016 election was a private matter, though an attendee at an event in September says Bush 41 told her that he would be voting for Trump's Democratic opponent, Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The younger President Bush's spokesperson says the 43rd president did not vote for any candidate.

Another of Bush 41's sons, Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, was one of Trump's Republican primary opponents. The Bush presidents did limited campaigning for Jeb, who got into heated back-and-forths with Trump.

Also scheduled to attend the Trump inauguration are Secretary Clinton and her husband, Former President Bill Clinton.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who is also 92, will also attend the event.
