To celebrate Mopar brand’s 80-year history, Dodge will display an anniversary edition Mopar ‘17 Dodge Challenger at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. Only 160 of these midsize sporty cars in a choice of two custom paint jobs will be produced.

The Mopar brand, an acronym for “Motor Parts,” was created in 1937 as a name for antifreeze products. Today, Mopar includes performance and standard parts, and customer-care products for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles worldwide.

The first 80 special-edition Mopar muscle cars will be produced in Contusion Blue with Pitch Black effects. The second 80 will be painted in Billet Silver with Pitch Black accents. The special-edition Challengers will feature Mopar performance parts, accessories, a custom owner’s kit, and numbered badge.

The standard Shaker Hood package by Mopar and Shaker Hood scoop surround are painted in Pitch Black, while the decklid spoiler and Mopar Design badge are also in Pitch Black. Mopar anniversary Challengers ride on 20 x 9-in. aluminum wheels with semi-gloss accents and Dodge logo center caps. Standard chrome exhaust tips are replaced with Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat black tips.

Performance is key. A robust 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine kicks out 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque when matched with a 6-speed manual transmission. Mopar’s cold air intake boosts performance with the aid of an air catcher duct system that takes cues from the Challenger SRT Hellcat. Mopar custom strut tower braces add to rigidity, and Brembo brakes provide aggressive stopping power.

Inside the anniversary Mopar Challenger are more custom Mopar logos on seatbacks. Buyers also receive a special packet with a welcome letter, hand-signed rendering of the car, special Mopar booklet, Mopar valve stem caps, and other branded items including a Mopar keychain and 80th anniversary badge.

The Mopar ‘17 Dodge Challenger is the eighth annual Mopar-modified vehicle from parent firm Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Others have included Mopar Charger, Mopar '13 Dodge Dart, and Ram 1500 Rebel models.

Limited-edition Mopar Challengers begin reaching dealer showrooms in the second quarter; each has a suggested sticker price of $55,790 (excluding fees).
