Coldplay’s Official Top 20 Best Selling Singles Revealed!

They've had plenty of big ones, but these are officially the biggest of the lot...

Coldplay have been a dominant force on the Official Charts for over a decade and a half and now and now their embarking on a massive stadium world tour.

Although it's been strongly rumoured their latest album A Head Full of Dreams is to be their last, lead singer Chris Martin insists the band aren't breaking up – they just don't know what's coming after their tour.

They've topped the Official Albums Chart seven times, but what about the singles? As any rock band will tell you, it's all about the songs, man. They’ve scored 22 Top 40 hits, including 17 Top 10s in the process, two of which were chart-toppers. You can check out all of Coldplay's singles and albums and where they charted here. But which of their big ones come out on top when it comes to sales?

1: Paradise (2011)

There’s nothing quite like a good old slow-burner on the Official Singles Chart, and Paradise certainly took its own sweet time. The group’s second chart-topper, it finally reached Number 1 on its tenth week in the chart, knocking off Military Wives and Gareth Malone with Wherever You Are.

The first Number 1 of 2012, Paradise has sold over 965,500 copies! It lasted a week at the top before Flo Rida’s Good Feeling gave it a nudge.

2: Viva La Vida (2008)

The band’s first Number 1 was a long time coming – after nine Top 10s, the guys were definitely due a chart-topper. The follow-up to Violet Hill, the track was taken from the band’s fourth studio album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, which has sold over 1.48 million copies.

Viva La Vida itself knocked Mint Royale’s version of Singin’ In The Rain off the top spot and was usurped a week later by Ne-Yo’s Closer. It’s sold over 828,000 copies.

3: Fix You (2005)

One of the band’s signature ballads, Fix You was supposedly written by front-man Chris Martin for his wife Gwyneth Paltrow following the devastating loss of her father.

Of course, that famous ‘conscious uncoupling’ would follow nine years later, but the song is still a huge crowd-pleaser, not to mention tearjerker. It peaked at Number 4 and has shifted over 679,000 copies.

4: Princess Of China (2012)

If there's one thing Rihanna loves, it's an all-star collaboration. But perhaps her unlikeliest one yet saw her team up with Chris and the guys for this Top 10 from 2011. Chris even claimed to have secretly wrote with her in mind – and she said yes!

Rihanna memorably performed the song with the band at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. Princess Of China reached Number 4 and has sold over 565,000 copies. On Rihanna’s best sellers’ list, it’s in 13th place. Blimey.

5: Yellow (2000)

So here's where it all began, with their very first Top 10. Coldplay’s breakthrough hit went straight in at Number 4 and was taken from their debut album Parachutes, which has sold over 2.6 million copies.

So which three records blocked Yellow from the Number 1 spot? Kylie Minogue’s Spinning Around (3), Samantha Mumba, new in at Number 2 with Gotta Tell You and Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady new at Number 1. Yellow has sold over 542,000 copies in the UK.
