8,000 years old artifacts unearthed in Iran

ORUMIEH: Some 8,000 years old artifacts have been unearthed in Iran’s Piranshahr city, the head of Piranshahr Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department said on Monday.

Soleiman Bashiri told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that during exploration, some diverse artifacts from The Bronze Age, huge structures from The Iron Age and various sites dating back to the Sassanid, Parthian and Islamic eras indicated suitable climate conditions for human life over the past 8,000 years.

The first round of exploration involving 32 experts was conducted in the vicinity of Kani Siv Dam from November 16 to January 1, he said, noting that the second round of the exploration will be undertaken in a wider scale and with the participation of more experts.

The items unearthed during the exploration were transferred to Orumieh Museum, Bashiri said.

Piranshahr is a city located in West Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran.

Josh died 37 years ago today!

ISLAMABAD: Josh Malihabadi (Shabbir Hasan Khan) was remembered on his 37th death anniversary today. 
Josh was born on 5th Dec. 1898 in Malihabad in undivided India. In 1914, he passed senior Cambridge exam. Afterward, Josh sahib acquired Arabic and Persian education. In 1925, Josh started his career as a translator at Usmania University in Hyderabad Deccan. Josh was expelled from the Deccan State after he penned down a verse against Nizam Hyderabad. His poem “Hussain and Inqilab” earned him the title of ‘Poet of Revolution’.
Josh was opposed to British rule and was a torchbearer of Hindustan’s independence. Josh was a very close friend of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In 1958 he came to Pakistan despite the opposition of Nehru. Josh wrote many songs, ghazals, and poems, and his works include Shola-o-Shabnam, Junoon-o-Hikmat, Fikr-o-Nishaat, Harf-o-Hikaayat, and Irfaniyat-e-Josh. His autobiography Yadoon Ki Baraat became immensely popular among readers for his candid account of his life. He died on this day in 1982 in Islamabad.

Cartoon-making workshop continues to serve art lovers

ISLAMABAD: The two-week cartoon making workshop continues to serve art lovers with basic and advanced techniques of cartooning till 21st February here at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA).
The workshop is open for media, students, cartoonists, and artists having a background of drawing to provide them training of political cartooning while renowned cartoonist Shujaat Ali was conducting the workshop at National Art Gallery of PNCA.
Shujaat Ali is among the pioneers of an animated political cartoon. He is well known and most modern political/editorial cartoonist among his contemporary practitioners, both domestically in Pakistan and abroad. He has received recognition and awards as a best editorial cartoonist from the beginning of his career in 1992. He is the first ever teacher of political cartooning in Pakistan as well as teach this new style to others.
PNCA regularly organize workshops touching upon varied dimensions of fine arts such as Calligraphy, Islamic ornamentation, Ceramic and pottery, miniature painting, papermaking, printmaking etc. These workshops have helped students to benefit and enhance their skills in a limited time sphere, said the organizers.
These workshops not only focus on practical skills but also educate the participants about the theoretical training with basic and advanced techniques to bring professionalism in amateur artists. Such opportunities explore the hidden talent of children, students, youngsters and local artists for promoting and preserving the rich culture of the country as well as to refine the talent of students. Various workshops and training courses have been organized by the PNCA for children and youngsters to express themselves with some techniques that help build their personalities.

International exhibition of China’s reforms put on display

ISLAMABAD: An exhibition of some 140 significant photos was opened here Tuesday at National Library of Pakistan, covering 40 years of historical routes, development achievements, win-win cooperation and Reforms in China.

The display offered the visitors a glance on China’s 40 years since reform and opening up by the pictures selected for the exhibition.

The event was organized by Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, China Cultural Center in Pakistan and National Library of Pakistan (National History and Literary Heritage Division) and co-hosted by China State Council Information Office and Chinese Embassy in Pakistan to celebrate 2019 Chinese Lunar New Year.

Joint Secretary National History and Literary Heritage Division, Junaid Ikhlaq, Cultural Counselor of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Pakistan, Zhang Heqing and Director National Library of Pakistan, Syed Ghayoor Hussain inaugurated the show while people from Chinese community and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Director National Library of Pakistan, introduced the audience with cultural revolution and reforms in China, celebration of Chinese New year and Developments in China. This exhibition is an attempt to create a link between people of Pakistan and China.

It is important to understand the culture of each other to know more about people. China and Pakistan have strong bond of friendship comprising 70 years of relations, he said.

The opening ceremony was followed by a special acrobatic, robotic dance and cultural performance by the students of International Grammar School Islamabad. The performers presented the traditional vibrant attires of both Pakistan and China.

The exhibition is part of series of activities organized to celebrate Chinese New Year in Pakistan by Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan.

The exhibition will remain open for public till February 24.
