Languages of Chhattisgarh
|
|
Chhattisgarhi is the common spoken language of the region - and has been an important factor in the demand for statehood, symptomatic and symbolic of a separate Chhattisgarhi identity. The many tribal groups in the state speak a number of different languages and dialects. Officially, Chhattisgarh has yet to be recognised a language, instead is considered a dialect derived from Hindi. Hindi and English are spoken in many parts of the state - except in the more remote and inaccessible tribal areas of Chhattisgarh.
