Yuen Long councilors to investigate MTR mob attack

Local | 7 Jan 2020 2:10 pm

The Yuen Long District Council passed a motion today to establish a working group to investigate the July 21 mob attack.

Earlier today, Democratic Party's Zachary Wong Wai-yin and Democratic Alliance's Mak Ip-sing were elected chairman and vice-chairman of the district council, respectively.

Mak said the police have not taken any further actions and there are worries of "collusion" between the police and triads.

Several pro-democracy councilors also demanded that police representatives to attend working group.

Tang Ho-nin, an ex-officio member said he also supports the inquiry, as the incident has affected women and children in villages. He said any violence should be condemned.

The police did not attended the meeting today, but said the New Territories North regional crime unit is investigating and among the 37 people arrested, seven have been charged with rioting.
