Will develop family and mainstream fare

Nina Jacobson, a senior production exec with DreamWorks, has ankled to become an exec VP of production with Walt Disney Pictures and Hollywood Pictures under prexy David Vogel, the studio announced Wednesday.

Jacobson will work through the end of next week at DreamWorks and start in early February for the Mouse. She will be responsible for developing and overseeing feature projects that include family-themed pics for Disney as well as more mainstream adult product for Hollywood.

She joins senior veepees Bernie Goldman and Michael Roberts as well as VP Gregg Hoffman on the senior exec staff.

“My being at DreamWorks has given me a real obsession with good writers,” Jacobson said. “If you chase good writers, you’ll end up making good movies. I want to bring that obsession to Disney.”

At DreamWorks, Jacobson had the idea for and was overseeing the computer graphics pic “Antz.” She was also responsible for bringing in a slew of development projects.

“She has incredible energy and style and tremendous relationships with writers,” Vogel said.

Before DreamWorks, Jacobson was a senior VP at Universal, where she was involved with the production of such pics as “12 Monkeys,” “Dazed and Confused” and “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.”

Jacobson had previously worked for Disney as a story analyst for the “Disney Sunday Movie” in 1987. She then moved to Silver Pictures as a director of development and went on to head development for MacDonald/Parkes Prods.
