INFORMATION FOR BREEDERS DURING COVID-19

Santa Clara County Has ordered Essential Services to institute a Social Distancing plan. As a result, we are requiring that all owners **including breeders** to drop their pets off to be evaluated by the veterinarian. Clients may not come into the building with their animals. Communication and payment is handled over the phone and email.  We will still be obtaining permission from you before performing any procedures and keeping you updated as we would normally.

This is a requirement made of us by the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health. It is to protect your safety, Adobe Staff safety and slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community. This is NOT OPTIONAL and NOT NEGOTIABLE.

Clients may not be in the building for any of the following:

  • Veterinarian’s exam
  • Pregnancy Check X Rays
  • Blood Draws
  • Emergency or Scheduled Surgeries

In cases of Dystocia – complicated labor

  • It is at the Veterinarian’s discretion whether one client may stay with the laboring animal in an exam room. If the client is not willing to stay in the exam room or doesn’t follow requirements to keep the staff safe, they will be asked to return to their car.
  • Should the pet need surgery, the client will need to return to their car if asked.

Services CONTINUING throughout Shelter in Place

  • Pregnancy check x rays
  • Urgent care for pregnant animals and neonates
  • Nurse advice over the phone or via chat during delivery/postpartum
  • Emergency care during difficult labors
  • Emergency and scheduled C-sections
  • Puppy Vaccines, microchips and deworming – typically via tech appointment

Services we are unfortunately UNABLE  to offer

  • Well puppy checks with a veterinarian.
  • Artificial insemination
  • Health Certificates to ship puppies to other states
  • Regularly available scheduled appointments. We are seeing patients on urgent care – as walk-ins
  • Choosing which doctor sees you pet. All doctors schedules have changed with many veterinarians off duty for a week or more at a time. As a result, you will not be able to choose which veterinarian your pet sees. You will need to see whichever veterinarian is on duty and available when you arrive.

Changes to Adobe Services due COVID-19 Response 3/15/2020

Adobe is making the following changes to our services in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We are following recommendations laid out by the CDC and Santa Clara Dept. of Public Health. We are finding creative ways to help you take care of your pets while keeping you and our staff as safe and healthy as possible.  Please be patient with us as the requirements are changing daily and our staff, like you, are impacted by school closing and family health concerns.

If you need urgent care for your pet or are sick or quarantined, please check out how to safely get help for your pet, [link to Rules during COVID-19]

Our urgent care services remain available 24/7

If your pet is sick, please check in with our chat team at www.adobe-animal.com to confirm your pet needs to be seen. Please let us know if you or anyone in your family is ill, quarantined or exposed to COVID-19 so that we can help your pet and protect our staff

We are leaving our schedule open for pets who are ill or need to be seen for chronic medical conditions.

If your pet is scheduled to be seen for a medical problem, we are NOT postponing appointments if at all possible. You may be rescheduled with a different doctor but we are doing our best to make sure pets with significant medical issues can be seen promptly.

We are in the process of expanding our Video Visits and Remote Advice Services

Please check out our main website. www.adobe-animal.com for the most up to date information about our Video Visits and Advice services.

We are postponing annual exams and routine wellness care in order to prioritize care for sick patients.

If you have an annual exam scheduled for the next 2-4 weeks, expect that we will call to cancel it. We ask you to call us back in 2 weeks to see if we are able to reschedule.

We are postponing elective procedures

If your pet is scheduled for a spay, neuter, benign growth removal or non-urgent dental procedure, expect that we will cancel and ask you to call back in 2-4 weeks to reschedule.

We are limiting our open hospital policy until the restrictions around COVID-19 are lifted.

We are limiting visits to ICU patients to TWO 30 min visits per day.  Only immediate family members will be allowed to visit and no more than 3 visitors total.  Additionally, we are not able to allow owners to be present during surgical or diagnostic procedures. If you are ill or exposed to someone who was ill, we will ask you to remain in your car while we evaluate and treat your pet. You will remain fully informed or our findings and as involved in decision making for your pet as you have always been.

How to Obtain Veterinary Care for your pet at Adobe during the COVID-19 Outbreak 3/15/2020

Adobe has adopted CDC Recommendations to help keep our clients and staff safe and healthy while COVID-19 is active in our community. Our goal is to be here for our patients and their families throughout the outbreak. For more information about the specific steps we are taking, please consult the CDC recommendations for Santa Clara County.

What precautions is Adobe taking during the COVID-19 outbreak?

    • We are asking that clients who are not feeling well to please stay home rather than come in person with their pets.
    • We are asking that ONLY ONE FAMILY MEMBER bring your pet in to minimize the number of people in our waiting room.
  • If you are under quarantine or have tested positive for COVID-19, we ask that you inform the staff. We can help your pet even if you are sick but we cannot see you in person if you are under quarantine.
  • When you arrive at Adobe, we will follow CDC recommendations by taking your temperature and evaluating you for respiratory symptoms before you enter the building.
  • We are asking any clients who are feeling ill or have been exposed to others who are feeling ill to wait in their cars. We cannot allow you to wait in the waiting room during this time.
  • Visiting Hours will be limited to two 30 minute visits a day for pets in the ICU between 9am-7pm. Immediately family members only for visits. Otherwise we are available to give updates 24/7 if your pet is in the hospital.

I am not feeling well and I think my pet is sick. What should I do?

If your pet isn’t feeling well, please go to our main website www.adobe-animal.com. We have veterinary technicians online who can chat with you and provide advice. If appropriate, we can set up a Video Visit with one of our veterinarians.  Information for how to set up a Video Visit can be found here.

I am feeling ill. My pet is sick and needs to be seen at Adobe. How can I get my pet to the hospital?

Fortunately, there are a number of options for getting your pet to Adobe.

  • If at all possible, please do not bring your pet in yourself if you are feeling sick. Staying home will help you get better faster and protect our staff.
  • We routinely work with owners that are out of the area. You can be fully involved in decision making even if you can’t be physically present.
  • Ask a healthy friend or family member to bring your pet in. We can call you when we are ready to examine your pet.
  • Pet Cab 360 can transport your pet from your home to Adobe and back. They are willing to stay with your pet during their time with the doctor and help facilitate care. Information about their services and fees can be found on their website: https://www.360petcab.com/

I am under quarantine or have tested positive for COVID-19, will you still treat my pet?

If your pet needs urgent medical care, we will take care of your pet. They will receive the same care as any other patient at Adobe. The only difference is that they will be hospitalized in our Isolation ward rather than the main ICU.  Unfortunately, if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or are under quarantine, you may not come into the hospital. We have many ways to keep in touch with you during your pet’s time with us even if you are not able to be at Adobe in person.

I am sick, should I bring my pet in for wellness care and vaccines?

No. Please stay home. We are postponing all wellness care and vaccine appointments to prioritize patients in need of urgent medical care.

COVID-19 and Animals-Information From The CDC

Updated 3/15/2020

I am worried about my pet and COVID-19. Where can I find reliable sources of information?

Check out the CDC website. We have copied the following information below. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/faq.html#animals

Should I be concerned with pets and other animals and COVID-19?

While this virus seems to have emerged from an animal source, it is now spreading from person-to-person in China. There is no reason to think that any animals including pets in the United States might be a source of infection with this new coronavirus. To date, CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19. At this time, there is no evidence that companion animals including pets can spread COVID-19. However, since animals can spread other diseases to people, it’s always a good idea to wash your hands after being around animals. For more information on the many benefits of pet ownership, as well as staying safe and healthy around animals including pets, livestock, and wildlife, visit CDC’s Healthy Pets, Healthy People website.

Should I avoid contact with pets and other animals if I am sick with COVID-19?

You should restrict contact with pets and other animals while you are sick with COVID-19, just like you would around other people. Although there have not been reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19, it is still recommended that people sick with COVID-19 limit contact with animals until more information is known about the virus. When possible, have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick. If you are sick with COVID-19, avoid contact with your pet, including petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food. If you must care for your pet or be around animals while you are sick, wash your hands before and after you interact with pets and wear a facemask.
