Latest ACT Test Updates

COVID-19 has disrupted your life. We’re here to help you navigate the path forward.

What We've Done

Since April of last school year, ACT testing has looked a little different. Learn about the steps we’ve taken to provide testing, with safety in mind, and how many students we’ve served.

The Road Ahead

ACT test enhancements were postponed to create additional testing capacity amid COVID-19 disruptions.

ACT Test Updates

Account Merge - Having more than one MyACT account does not affect a student’s ability to see or send their scores, once they are available. If a student has more than one ACT account or ACT ID, they will need to log in to each account in MyACT separately. We are currently working to fulfill requests to merge accounts. Students will receive an email when their accounts have been merged.

Refunds - We are sorry if you are unable or were unable to test where and when you would have liked to. We’re happy to offer you a refund for your test registration fees. To request a refund, please fill out the refund request form. Once we confirm you're eligible for a refund, we will process your request. Some refunds from 2020 test dates may take longer to process.

Cancellations - If you're currently registered for a national test date, please know that changes in COVID-19 may affect your ability to test on your scheduled test day. While we manage the process of recruiting test centers for national and international test dates, it is ultimately up to test centers to stay open, close, or limit capacity based on local public health guidelines. View our COVID-19 FAQs to learn about our face covering requirement and social distancing guidelines.

We will email you up until 9 pm CT the night before your test if your registration status changes for any reason. Now through your test day, we'll be sending emails on weekdays to notify students if there has been a change in registration status. Before you leave on test day, please check the cancellations page for morning-of updates.

What could happen between now and test day:

  • Your test center closes
  • Your test center has a reduction in capacity
  • You are registered at an unlisted test center, which was established only to test specific examinees, and ACT adjusts the roster at their request

Customer Service - You have questions, and we’re here to help. The best way to reach us is by email, through our contact form. Inquiries made here are generally responded to within 24 hours. You can also reach us on social

What We've Done

We took the following steps to add seats and sites with safety and social distancing in mind:

  • Postponed April 2020 national and international test dates for the safety and health of students and test center staff
  • Created social distancing guidelines, including a face covering requirement, and implemented COVID-19 reporting protocols with guidance from public health officials
  • Performed a massive manual outreach campaign to our test center network to open up testing capacity across the nation
  • Automatically registered as many class of 2020 and class of 2021 seniors as possible for fall 2020 test dates
  • Created “pop-up” testing events in hotels and conference centers across the nation in areas most affected by test cancellations
  • Worked with state and district customers, as well as state organizations members, to offer the ACT via national and unlisted test center administrations at their schools.
  • Added 3 new test dates for Fall 2020 and opened up non-Saturday testing to more students

Despite testing capacity being greatly reduced due to social distancing requirements, we’ve tested more than one million students since June 2020, which includes national, and state and district testing.

The Road Ahead

To create as much testing capacity for students to earn scores from the full ACT test, we postponed our plans to launch section retesting and online testing for national test-takers. Superscoring is now available.

Though our teams were working to launch a remote proctoring solution this year, we will not be moving forward with this test option in the 2020-21 school year. Learn more.
