Famous for being the home of authentic Asian eats in Brisbane, it’s no surprise Sunnybank is full of great Asian restaurants. But there’s more to this taste tickling precinct than meets the eye. If you can pull yourself away from the tantalising smells of food, you’ll discover the fruit and veg markets, indoor climbing gyms and friendly faces that also make Sunnybank shine. Grab your appetite on your way out the door – it’s time to discover all the things to do on Brisbane’s southside.
If you’re new to Sunnybank, the number of restaurants can be a bit overwhelming – we get it, so, here’s some local favourites to get you started. Explore Asian flavours with restaurants like Shalom Indonesian Restaurant in Sunnybank Hills, one of the first Indonesian restaurants to open in Australia in the 90s. With menu items like deep fried crab claws, chicken soup and Indonesian fried rice with chicken, no wonder this is a long-time neighbourhood and takeaway favourite.
You can also tantalise your tastebuds at Fry Chicken Master in Robertson, a restaurant famous for authentic Taiwanese bite-sized fried chicken, as well as noodles, soups, deep fried tofu and so much more. Feel good with a full belly knowing that you’re buying local and showing our local businesses they’re not alone.
If you aren’t too full up on food, and keen to try a new kind of gym workout to build fitness or learn to be a ninja warrior, Crank Indoor Climbing is a fun way to spend your day in neighbouring MacGregor. With 65 ropes, boulder walls and hundreds of rock-climbing routes to scale, you can play before hitting the onsite gym for weights, cardio, yoga and fitness classes.
Planning a party? Be the host with the most and throw a party featuring parkour, ninja warrior and rock climbing.
If you prefer to take things more at your own pace, why not visit Les Atkinson Park? Perfect for picnic chow downs, this lush greenspace also has a basketball half court so you can work up a sweat, a skate park and playground to keep the kids entertained. It’s also got its own tai chi facility, perfect for centering your mind and body.
To make your own version of authentic Chinese takeaway, pop by Yuen’s Market, Sunnybank, a local one stop shop for Asian ingredients like Korean Kimchi, Malay Laksa paste, Chinese salted duck eggs and Japanese sticky rice. Don’t miss the fresh seafood spread, fresh produce and baked goods, all served with a smile. And with a range of authentic fresh food markets and shops nearby, you'll be spoilt for choice for your next Asian feast.
Explore your nearby postcodes and suburbs with our videos and discover new places near you. Brisbane’s southside suburbs are full of friendly faces and shopkeepers that know you by name, so let’s go and say hello.
